At Taste New Zealand 2018, A Focus on SustainabilityFoodies Corner
“Taste New Zealand” returned this October with a focus on New Zealand’s innovations in food technology.
Organised by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE), this year’s event discussed some of the country’s sustainable food practices. Held on 5 October at The Dharmawangsa Hotel, the event a range of New Zealand food companies, many of whom have made inlays in Indonesia. According to official statistics from NZTE, New Zealand’s exports to Indonesia totalled around NZD 548 million in 2016 or 65 per cent of New Zealand’s total exports to this country.
“As a country that always commits to provide more food product choices to Indonesian consumers, New Zealand has grown from being trusted food producers to become innovators of food technology,” said Diana Permana, New Zealand Trade Commissioner to Indonesia.
Companies such as Airborne Honey are pioneers of special technologies that can minimise damage to honey due to heat during the production process. Through a traceability feature, TraceMe Program, consumers can access information on the internet to find the location of the bee farm where the honey was harvested.
Zespri, the leading kiwi fruit marketer, has developed a complete supply system, named the Zespri System, which ensures all products are developed using the best Orchard Management techniques, with a focus on sustainable system with great concern for the preservation of nature and the environment.
Among the New Zealand Companies currently operating in Indonesia are Griffin’s and Manuka Health.
“Taste New Zealand” also showcased several other food products, such as chocolate company Whittaker’s, dairy company Tatua (New Zealand’s oldest) and Fonterra which is the world’s largest exporter of milk with various brands like Anchor, Anlene, Anmum, Bonetto and more.
