Success comes to those who dedicate everything to their passion in life. Thanks to the passion of the people behind Atico by Javanegra, dedication to good food has now been raised to new heights.

As the name suggests, Atico by Javanegra is the second brainchild from the talented people driving Javanegra Gourmet Atelier, headed by the one and only Andrea Peresthu.

In case you haven’t heard, Javanegra Gourmet Atelier is not a restaurant. It’s an exclusive private dining experience where Chef Andrea cooks Mediterranean-style “fresh of the day degustation”, for twelve. Since its conception three years ago, Javanegra has garnered a positive reputation among Jakarta’s foodies. Now, through Atico, the experience will spread to an even wider range of people, in a more casual environment.

Interestingly enough, the chef himself has never had any formal culinary training. In fact, he is a former university professor and architect with self-confessed deep love and passion for food. Having lived and worked abroad extensively and dined in approximately 300 restaurants, Chef Andrea came home with a well-trained palate, which ten inspired him to pursue the art of cooking and to add his own authentic touch.

Located at Menara BTPN, Atico occupies quite a spacious space with one private dining section and a rooftop area where you can sit back and have a good time after work.

A glance at the menu reveals a wide array of Mediterranean-inspired cuisine including a series of tapas and pasta dishes. For starters, we tried Mixed Tapas that consisted of grilled eggplants, grilled cucumbers, paprika and mushrooms – an arguably healthy way to commence the wholesome dining experience.

On to the main, we’d recommend you to try Entranas Ala Plancha, loosely translated as grilled Argentinean hanging tender steak. The steak was served with three different condiments: chimichurri sauce (made from parsley, garlic, olive oil and chili pepper), spicy mayo sauce and a small bowl of salt. We loved how the steak instantly melted in our mouths. For a spicy twist, spread some chimichurri sauce and spicy mayo on your steak. We also tried Pollo Asado, Andalusian-style grilled chicken marinated with various herbs, and also Spaghetti Vongole with clams. Simply seasoned with olive oil and parsley, the spaghetti was highly enjoyable thanks to its fresh-from-the-sea clams. Although it was a hard decision to make, in the end we opted for the restaurant’s Entranas Ala Plancha as our number-one favourite.

To cleanse our palate after the heavy meal, we opted for a cup of Javanegra genuine coffee that went very well with Pistachio Cake and Chocolate Tart from the sweets display.

Overall, we had a pleasant dining experience at Atico. It’s only natural that popular social media reviews have attested to its reputation. Given its strategic location and prime menu, we look forward to seeing the restaurant rising even higher on Jakarta’s culinary scene very soon.
