COLONIAL CHARM AND SIMPLE ELEGANCE AT PLATARAN HERITAGE BOROBUDUR
|

Colonial charm meets simple elegance at Plataran Heritage Borobudur Hotel and Convention Center, which opened its doors for the public in May.

Indonesian hospitality group Plataran is known for showcasing Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage, be it through their hotels and resorts or dining and event venues across the archipelago.

The latest addition to the group’s establishments is Plataran Heritage Borobudur Hotel and Convention Center, located in the midst of picturesque rice terraces of Kretek Village in Central Java with breathtaking views of the Menoreh Hills and only a stone’s throw from Borobudur temple, one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world.

Adjacent to Plataran Borobudur Resort & Spa, the new property caters primarily to the growing number of MICE travellers seeking accommodation and proper facilities for large groups to organize seminars, conferences and other events. The Heritage Convention Center, located within the hotel complex, is a state-of-the-art event venue with several meeting rooms and a grand ballroom that can accommodate up to 500 people.

The hotel, designed in sublime colonial style, boasts 75 elegant and spacious rooms with a unique Indonesian touch, that make for a relaxing retreat at the end of the day. For rejuvenation, guests can also head to Padma Spa, which is located on the roof and offers a range of treatments to unwind body and soul.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served either at Menoreh or Stupa restaurant. The latter is a traditional Joglo restaurant with an open terrace overlooking lush rice fields, and is especially lovely for breakfast or in the afternoons when the sun is about to set and the heat of the day has faded away. The Langit Menoreh Bar & Lounge is equally inviting – here, one can nibble on light snacks while enjoying a drink or two.

Of course, there are lots of activities in and around the hotel on offer, beginning from the most obvious – a visit to Borobudur – to cooking and batik classes, biking or elephant ride tours. Perhaps one of the most rewarding options is to hike up the nearby hill Puthuk Setumbu, from where one has a spectacular view during sunrise. Another point of interest in the immediate neighborhood is Gereja Ayam, the abandoned “Chicken Church” in the middle of the forest that has gained new-found fame when it was prominently featured in the popular Indonesian movie “Ada Apa Dengan Cinta 2”.

True to its slogan “True Indonesian Icon”, Plataran is always committed to give back to the Indonesian people by designing programmes that help to improve the lives and skills of the surrounding communities of their properties. At Plataran Heritage Borobudur, for instance, many of the staff has been recruited from the neighbor villages of the hotel. Furthermore, Plataran has dedicated itself to the conservation of the country’s land and sea environments and continuously pushes to further develop eco-tourism in Indonesia.
