Held annually since 2007, the Jakarta Race Series is the oldest running event in Jakarta. The event not only promotes a healthy lifestyle through running but also raises money for charity. This year’s first stage took place at British School Jakarta on 5 March. There were two main categories, a 5 kilometers and a Fun Run 2.5 kilometers, as well as an informal 100 meters Toddlers’ Dash (for children under six) while the 5 kilometers race offered both an open and under-16 category.

102 runners registered for the 5 kilometers race, while another 150 took part in the Fun Run and 30 kids joined in the Toddlers’ Dash. Members of Jakarta Guiding held a barbecue for spectators and the hungry finishers afterwards.

The funds raised from registration fees and sponsorship will be donated to Yayasan Syndoma Down Indonesia and Citra Baru Foundation which supports surgery for young people with cranio-facial malformations, tumours and 3rd degree burns. At the British School Jakarta, 60 children with links to these two charities took part in the Fun Run.

The Jakarta Race Series Stage Two will be held on 15 April at Jakarta Intercultural School and on 7 May at Ragunan Zoo. The event was sponsored by Sketchers, Blue Bird Group, Sun Pride, Aqua Mizone and Premier Bintaro Hospital.
