Dedicated fans of the high fantasy adventure film series The Lord of the Rings will know that in New Zealand, traveling from Auckland to Queenstown will take you on a journey through Middle-earth to Hobbiton and all Hobbit Holes that make up The Shire.

But even if you’re not too keen on Frodo Baggins’ adventures, chances are you’ll still find New Zealand a beautiful place to visit. Just ask model, actress and intrepid traveler Nadine Chandrawinata, who was recently named as Tourism Advocate for Tourism New Zealand in Indonesia.

“I’m so happy and grateful for this opportunity. Ever since my 2014 trip to New Zealand, I’ve always wanted to go back there and finally it has come true! You can check out my New Zealand adventures on Instagram at #NadineCeritaNZ and #NZMustDo,” said Chandrawinata.

As part of her duty as Tourism Advocate, Chandrawinata traveled to New Zealand for ten days in May to explore the best of the country – from swimming with dolphins in Akaroa to riding on Hydro Attack in Queenstown, a unique experience where you can dive into the water in a semi-submersible watercraft that looks like a shark. Known for her penchant for adventure, the former Miss Indonesia also tried bungee jumping and roamed the Tasman Glacier, the largest of several glaciers in New Zealand, as well as glided along the tranquil Avon River, which flows through the centre of the city of Christchurch.

“She has an emotional attachment and natural connection with our country because she has had a wonderful previous trip there. As an advocate, she will be the extension of what we do. She will tell stories about NZ, about the culture, landscape and nature. She will share all of those with Indonesia and the world,” said Tourism New Zealand Regional Manager for South and Southeast Asia Steven Dixon during a press briefing at Fairmont Hotel in Central Jakarta.

As of March 2017, there were 20,544 Indonesians visiting New Zealand, a 25.5 per cent increase compared with the previous year. With Chandrawinata on board, New Zealand tourism officials are optimistic that more Indonesians will be attracted to visit the southwestern Pacific Ocean island nation.
