Those creative folks behind Potato Head Pacific Place in Jakarta, Potato Head Beach Club in Bali, and the newly built boutique hotel, Katamama, have extended their reach in Asia with the recent opening of Potato Head Hong Kong. Equally as quirky as its sister outlets, Potato Head Hong Kong sprawls across an 8000-square-foot space which houses a unique collection of retail, dining and lifestyle concepts.

Potato Head Hong Kong, PTT Family’s second international outpost, was designed by award-winning Tokyo-based architect Sou Fujimoto, an architect who is most well known for designing the 2013 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in London.

Located in the Sai Ying Pun neighbourhood, Potato Head Hong Kong’s expansive site comprises Kaum, a new dining concept that showcases Indonesia’s rich culinary heritage, The Music Room, a discreet and intimate listening space, All-day Café and bar, I Love You So Coffee, and Retail space featuring Canaan, the home and lifestyle boutique offering artisanal Indonesian items.

Kaum
Kaum, meaning “tribe” in Indonesian, is the result of a collaboration between PTT Family CEO Ronald Akili, chef Antoine Audran, and gastronomy activist Lisa Virgiano, who wanted to bring their passion for the Indonesian archipelago’s food culture to the global forefront.

A glance at the menu will reveal an intriguing array of dishes from Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Bali. But what’s even more exciting is the culinary team’s endeavour to replicate traditional ways of cooking like spit roasting (guling), bamboo grilling on lava stones, skewer grilling (sate), and manual grinding (ulek).

Complementing the cuisine is an extensive wine list and cocktail menu that draws inspiration from native Indonesian flora and ancient medicinal traditions.

The second outpost of Kaum is set to open in Potato Head Beach Club later this year.

“PTT Family’s expansion into Hong Kong is part of our quest to introduce our innovative concepts and authentic experiences to a wider audience across Asia and further afield,” says Ronald Akili, PTT Family CEO. “Through Potato Head Hong Kong and our new dining concept Kaum, we strive to put forward our unique lifestyle brands that embrace the best of Indonesia’s culture and culinary heritage to the global stage”.
