The Stones Hotel partners with Scholars of Sustenance to provide food for underprivileged children in BaliHospitality Updates
One of the biggest issues surrounding any hospitality industry is food waste. It is nearly inevitable for companies offering attractive food and beverage services with good value for money. The issue is only exacerbated in a tourism destination like Bali, where indulgent tourists and lavish spreads are an expectation.
However, where there is excess, there is also opportunity. Enter the Scholars of Sustenance, or SOS, a non-profit organisation focusing on improving global food distribution. There are communities suffering from food inequality or scarcity whilst simultaneously there are sources of food producing too much - so the solution is simple, redistribute the surpluses to where there are shortages.
Behind all of the glitz and glamour of tourism in Bali, communities still suffer at the hand of unequal food distribution. That’s why, on Thursday, 30th August 2018, The Stones Hotel - Legian, Bali - Marriott Autograph Collection signed a partnership with Scholars of Sustenance Bali.
As part of their CSR program, The Stones Hotel – Legian Bali will be giving away excess food from daily Food & Beverage consumption within the hotel to be collected daily by SOS Bali. Excess food from the hotel will then be weighted and examined in SOS Bali’s office to determine the quality of the food. All food that have passed the quality check will then be distributed to the needy in various areas in Bali.
Daryn Hudson, General Manager of The Stones Hotel – Legian, Bali stated, “We strive to be the force of good and committed to serve the Balinese community, implementing one of Marriott International’s core values.”
Duaine James, Director of Operations, stated, “We are grateful for the generosity of The Stones Hotel - Legian, Bali and their commitment in giving back to the community. We do hope other businesses in Bali will be keen in joining the initiative.”
The Stones Hotel has three specialised restaurants: The Stones Kitchen, an all-day serving European-style café dining; The Long Rice Table, an Indonesian cuisine dinner destination; and Big Fish Bar & Grill serving grilled/alfresco seafood over a centre display grill inside a stylish Bali seafood restaurant. By working with SOS Bali, The Stones Hotel can continue to share their delicious food offerings to their many guests whilst simultaneously provide food for underprivileged communities in need.
Located on the tip of Legian Beach, The Stones Hotel offers an amazing Bali experience at the crossroads of vibrant Kuta and the lifestyle thrills of Seminyak. The hotel is home to a famous oversized pool, entertainment deck, spa and luxuriously appointed 308 guest rooms.
