Paulaner Bräuhaus
Oom-pah music, dancing and of course a culinary homage to pork marked the start of celebrations at Paulaner Bräuhaus. The event, in Jakarta’s only microbrewery, featured the traditional accouterments of a Bavarian folk festival. The brewery’s own beer was served—in copious, unlimited pours—alongside a Brotzeit plate consisting of a selection of cold cuts, cheese, pickles, radish and tomato. With plenty of the most delicious pretzels. And that was just the start! As the night went on and the band drew in the crowds, more dishes arrived at the table. A platter of a range of meat including crispy pork knuckle, Nuremberger, Krakauer and Vienna sausages (accompanied by sauerkraut, mashed potato and and fries) made their way to table along with beef goulash and spaetzle.

As revellers danced the evening away, a bit of added sustenance in the form of sugary treats were thrown in. A delicious serve of black forest cake and a small side of pancake topped with apple compote was the perfect sweet finish to an evening of merriment, as Jakarta celebrated this 200-year old tradition embracing it in all its glorious, Bavarian authenticity.

Oktoberfest is on until 6 October. Paulaner Bräuhaus Grand Indonesia (East Mall), 2nd Floor. For reservations contact (021) 2358 3871 or email paulaner.jakarta@kempinski.com.
