Over the past few weeks, BritCham has been busy expanding our networks across the Indonesian renewable energy sector. BritCham welcomed in the month of September with an exciting exhibition of our Britain is GREAT Pavilion at the Electrical, Power, and Renewable Energy Indonesia 2017 expo in Jakarta, sourcing a plethora of potential export opportunities for British Companies.

This time round, BritCham had the pleasure of supporting Bowman Power Group Ltd who are currently scoping the Indonesian market for potential opportunities. As the world leader in power recovery within the power generation industry, Bowman chose to come to Indonesia due to the demand for new and sustainable energy. Indonesia is also predicted to be the 6th biggest global economy by 2030, with therefore significant business opportunities. With energy access in Indonesia still not complete, part of Bowman’s expansion plans in Indonesia is therefore to ensure power access to all remote areas in Indonesia by 2025, providing Indonesia with sufficient energy for their needs.

Bowman approached our Overseas Delivery Partner team at BritCham, due to our reputation repeatedly providing an excellent service to potential investors. From researching the market, arranging meetings with the right stakeholders to facilitating the GREAT Pavilion, BritCham Indonesia have assisted over 80 UK companies in their enquiries about potentially exporting into Indonesia. As Bowman’s business trip to Indonesia drew to a close, Bowman representative, Simon Ashby, stated how helpful it was to have a knowledgeable, commercially-oriented, and business-minded staff at Britcham to assist their market entrance into Indonesia. Bowman wished for other UK investors to come and get down here in this IT savvy environment, to look for investment opportunity, expanding network or checking out the competitors.

Overall, the GREAT Pavilion at the expo was a great success, with over one hundred visitors stopping by our booth, discussing potential business and collaboration opportunities, alongside further involvement with BritCham. To add to BritChams long list of activities over the last few weeks, we also held a workshop on Friday 15th September at the EBTKE conference, entitledWorkshop on Tidal Current Power Plant Development in IndonesiaOpportunities and Challenge.”

The workshop was sold out with 48 attendees and 5 panellists. We invited panellists from both the public and private spheres including; Dr. Ediar Usman, the Head of Centre for Marine Geology Research at the Ministry of Energy & Marine Sources, Marietje Hutapea, the Director of Miscellaneous Renewable Energy at the New, Renewable & Energy Conservation, Dr. Ismadi Bagus, representing British marine energy company, Nova Innovation, Mr. Latif Gau, representing Dutch company Tidal Bridge and finally Andreas Joeda representing Indonesian company Andritz Hydro.

BritCham hopes to continue offering valuable insight on investment opportunities in Indonesia and urge UK companies to establish their company here and expand their presence in the region through GREAT Pavilion.
