With much pomp and circumstance, pyrotechnics and foot stomping, the American EDM-Pop Duo, collectively known as The Chainsmokers took the stage at Jakarta International Expo on 30 March.
There was much anticipation leading up to the band’s arrival, with throngs of fans gathering in the outdoor arena. Preceded by opening acts performed by luminaries such as DJ Jenja, Weird Genius, Alffy Rev and Dipha Barus, the pair leapt on the stage and greeted their fans.
Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart wowed the audience with their belting of hot favourites “Say you’ll never let me go” and remixes of other pop favourites.
The 90-minute concert had the audience jumping and singing along — often in Karaoke style – as the pair danced and swayed on stage.
They even gave Chris Martin of Coldplay a nod when they sang “Something just like this” – which drew in crowds from around the arena to the main stage.
With audience participation throughout it was clear the band knew their biggest fans were gathered before them. As the sound reached a crescendo— accompanied by a complete light show that thrilled the gathering, they sang favourites from other pop greats, Justin Bieber and The Cranberries.
The fan favourite, “Closer” was performed toward the end—which got the crowd wild with excitement! And, just like that, with the flourish and song and dance with which they entered, the duo bowed out, thanking Jakarta fans for being a captivating audience.
