There are few places in tropical Jakarta where one can enjoy a laid-back, casual al fresco experience. Tugu Kunstkring Paleis is one of them. The Tugu Hotels and Restaurants Group, credited for restoring this classic early 20th century building to its original splendour, celebrated its fifth Annual Sunday Bazaar on 22 April on its historic grounds.

Despite the threat of looming thunderstorms punctuated by piercing heat, guests stopped by in their dozens to celebrate. In addition to food and drink (along with live entertainment) all under patio umbrellas — and leafy trees — guests also had the opportunity to shop for a wide range of handicrafts, clothing and accessories – and also have their fortunes read! It was the perfect time for Jakarta society to catch up with friends and associates and make new ones in the process.

The event, which saw invitees gather round in much merriment, welcomed pets as well with a few booths selling treats for the many pets who were excitedly running about the venue and taking it all in. The perfect family event, the iconic building, which in previous incarnations held classic art pieces and was once the Immigration office, drew in crowds to celebrate within its fold once again. Local brands familiar to Jakartans were well-represented at the event which featured full meals and ready dishes along with much-welcomed iced beverages.
