Indonesians love Indomie noodles, both fried and boiled in soup. The country is also obsessed with Indomie-flavoured chips! So it came as no surprise that, over the weekend, social media in Indonesia had everyone talking about the latest sensation—Indomie-flavoured doughnuts!
Surprisingly, these noodle doughnuts were not produced in the country but was a collaboration between Indomie Australia and doughnut company, Donut Papi. The Sydney-based doughnut store served up these exclusive treats between 25 May to 27 May.
Served in actual Indomie packages, social media was abuzz over the weekend with photographs of this limited edition doughnut, and piqued the attention of many Indonesians.
Photographs posted to Indomie Australia’s social media account revealed that the filling contained fried noodles, and many Indonesian home cooks, including Nawang Okta, have attempted to recreate the sensation by posting videos of recipes on YouTube.
Following this past weekend’s success, Donut Papi posted a teaser stating that it may have another offer next year, the “MAY Goreng” edition!
Restaurants in Indonesia have responded with their own attempts to recreate the treat. Jakarta based warung Indomie restaurant TOT.AW introduced the Indomie cake and donut in 2016. Located in Kelapa Gading, the warung style restaurant serves a variety of dishes that feature Indomie as the main ingredient.
It might be a while—if ever—the Australian version of the dish may be introduced here, but to satisfy your curiosity for now, perhaps a visit to TOT.AW (or ordering it via GO-FOOD) might just have to do.
