The ARTOTEL Group, together with Indonesia’s pioneering wine producers, Hatten Wines, have broken an Indonesian record! On 20 June 2023, at the Tiara Ballroom in AROTEL Suites, Mangkuluhur, Jakarta, they held a monumental wine-tasting event as part of the launch of the ARTOTEL Wanderlust loyalty program. With 205 attendees on the night, the gathering set a new official record for MURI (Indonesian Museum of Records) as the wine-tasting event with the most participants.
Attendees were guided by Ni Nyoman Kertawidyawati (Widya), a certified WSET Wine Educator and Wine Expert from Hatten Wines, as well as a presentation of various Indonesian local foods created by Corporate Executive Chef, Rendiputra P. Saroengallo from the AROTEL Group. Five types of wine were served to test the participants’ knowledge, including Hatten Wines AGA White, Hatten Wines AGA Red, Hatten Wines Sweet Alexandria, Two Islands Chardonnay, and Two Islands Cabernet Merlot.
To train the attendees’ sense of taste, Widya asked the participants to mix and match the various wines with several cooking spices and sauces such as salt, sugar, lime, rendang seasoning, curry seasoning, peanut sauce, and Balinese seasoning (Base Gede). The participants were also invited to taste a combination of wine with various local Indonesian dishes, such as Ketan Serundeng, Sate Maranggi, Lumpia, Selat Solo, and other local Indonesian dishes. This was done to show that the acidity, sweetness and saltiness level in a dish affects how the wine will taste on one’s palate.
Eduard Rudolf Pangkerego, Chief Operating Officer of ARTOTEL Group, also lent a few of his words, emphasising the growing need for wine as part of a new lifestyle for the Indonesian people and how grateful he was that this vision was also met with Hatten Wines as co-collaborator. Through holding the biggest wine-tasting event in Indonesia, this record-breaking collaboration will give education and exposure to the various flavours of domestically produced wine, as well as showcase how well Indonesian dishes can pair with wine.
This event was also an activation activity for the Wonderful Indonesia program launched by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to promote Indonesian Tourism since ARTOTEL Group and Hatten Wines are Wonderful Indonesia’s Co-Branding partners. Through this wine tasting, Hatten Wines hopes that it can continue to strengthen its place in Indonesia and support the growth and development of the wine industry in the country.
The event was closed with the process of validating participant calculations carried out by the MURI team and continued with the awarding of the MURI record certificate to:
- ARTOTEL Group and Hatten Wines with the “Most Wine Tastings” record in the Industrial Economy Category.
- Ni Nyoman Kertawidyawati with the “Most Wine Tasting Educator” record in the Personal category.
