Skål is a professional organisation of tourism leaders around the world, promoting global tourism and friendship. It is the only international group uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry. Skal members, the industry’s managers and executives, meet at local, national, regional and international levels to discuss and pursue topics of common interest.
History of Skal Club
The first Club was founded in 1932 in Paris by travel managers, following an educational tour of Scandinavia. The idea of international goodwill and friendship grew and, in 1934, the “Association Internationale des Skål Clubs” was formed with Florimond Volckaert as its first President, who is considered the “Father of Skål”. The fact that “Skal” means “Cheers” in Swedish gives you some idea of the level of hospitality and friendliness that the clubs engender!
The Latest Gathering
On December 8, 2023, Skal International Jakarta held its yearly year-end dinner celebration at the stunning Singosari Hall at Hotel Borobudur Jakarta. This had a great attendance from a wide range of people in the tourism, travel and hospitality industries, and attracted the attention of some serious sponsors, who generously provided the group with amazing raffle prizes, including a King Koil bed and two big screen LG TVs which were the top awards. But there were some other great prizes including: Gran Melia, Novotel Cikini, NOW! Jakarta, Double Tree Diponegoro, Taman Sari Royal Heritage Spa, Artotel Wanderlust, Turkuaz, Robento, Dilmah, Prima fit, Life Coach and Roadybox.
Of course the focal point of the evening was the great food provided by the marvellous Borobudur Hotel which exceeded all the participants’ expectations. Here is the menu:

But what is a good meal with some good drinks , especially for an organisation called ”Cheers” and there we were treated to Heineken Indonesia for the beers, Vibe Liqueur & Spirits and Beema Honey for the delectable cocktails, and Hatten Wines and Two Islands for their exquisite wines. The evening went with a beautiful flow as a result!
The high note of the evening was provided by singer Mery Senger, who entertained the guests with pitch-perfect vocals.
