The blend of Indonesian hospitality and authentic Turkish cuisine seems to be a winning combination as Kemang’s own Warung Turki continues to stand the test of time. It’s unclear whether it is the food or the atmosphere that keeps people coming, as both authentically channel the authentic charms of the region. With its colourful mosaic lanterns and turquoise walls, diners are transported into a charming Mediterranean village, offering a welcome respite from the busying streets of Jakarta.

At the heart of Warung Turki is the white-washed wood-fire oven, adorned with tulips and the iconic ‘Nazar Boncuğu’, the blue eye, making for quite the centre piece. This where much of the restaurant’s specialities are made, featuring an array of grill and wood-fired oven dishes. Some of Warung Turki’s signature dishes include Doner Kebab, Sis Kebab, Adana Kebab,  Lamb Shanks as well as the classic Humus and Babaganuc, both made fresh in-house. A must try is the Gozleme – a half-moon shaped bread filled with traditional village ingredients; or indeed the Firinda Kuzu Incik – lamb shank with mushroom, shallots, and garlic served with butter rice. Finally, a meat lovers favourite includes the Kagit Kebabi, minced meat kebab with chilli and tomatoes, baked in the  wood oven and served with bread for a hearty meal to complete your day.

Close your meals with something sweet like their Sutlac – a vegetarian-friendly creamy rice pudding  topped with cinnamon powder. And of course, no visit to a Turkish restaurant is complete  without trying their signature Baklava – 24 layers of delicately hand-rolled phyllos with selected dry nuts.
