Bali International Indigenous Film Festival Returns with a Packed Line Up

Film | 15 April 2019

Bringing together filmmakers from all over the world, the 2nd Bali International Indigenous Film Festival takes place at Njana Tilem Museum, Mas, Ubud, from 10-12 May.

Aliko & Ambai is a feature film about two young women facing the challenges of growing up in the beautiful Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. The film will be screened the 2nd Bali International Indigenous Film Festival in May. Still image of Aliko & Ambai/NOW!JAKARTA

The festival will begin with an indigenous blessing ceremony and honouring of the ancestors followed by an indigenous traditional dance, three documentary films and Q & A with the directors. With seating for up to 500 people among spacious gardens, grab a drink, mix and mingle with directors and enjoy an exquisite dining experience. Get ready for the weekend and two days of 32 film screenings hosted at the very comfortable Paradiso, Ubud.

12 film directors will be in attendance over the 3-day festival with documentary film screenings from 12 different countries. The theme “Stories that Matter” covers a variety of topics including indigenous wisdom, connection with nature, solution-focused alternatives, land rights issues, success stories, forest preservation, and the use of technology to support indigenous interests.

Mark your calendar now. There is limited seating (120) at Paradiso, and last year’s festival opening night was a sellout with many sessions sold out.  Take advantage of the early bird option.  On sale now until all tickets are sold.
