Celebrating Valentine's Day, Indonesian tenor singer Ari Wibowo collaborating with Regina Handoko and Harland Hutabarat will be part of a classical music concert titled Amore – A Romantic Classical Evening.

One of Indonesia’s gifted tenor, Ari Wibowo, talks about his upcoming concert and inspiration behind it.

Please tell us a little bit about the upcoming Amore - A Romantic Classical Evening.

The upcoming concert, Amore - A Romantic Classical Evening, will be held on 16 February 2020, at Usmar Ismail at 5pm. This concert will have four singers and will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra. The songs that will be performed are love themes as we celebrate Valentine’s day on 14 February. It will be a highlight from Opera Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Rigoletto, Carmen and Italian Neapolitan Songs.

What is the idea/inspiration behind putting together a concert such as this?

The idea is to introduce opera music to the public. Opera music is still rarely performed in Indonesia. We want the public to have a glimpse of this genre. We also hope that this concert will satisfy the thirst of classical music enthusiasts and lovers in Jakarta particularly.

Would you mind sharing a little bit of your musical background and career so far?

As a soloist, I have performed with several orchestras from local to multinationals such as Jakarta Concert Orchestra, Nusantara Symphony Orchestra, The Amadeus String Orchestra, Konstanz Chamber Orchestra, Tübingen Chamber Orchestra, and the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra. I also got the chance to perform in the Gala Concert of JerIn (Jerman-Indonesia) and the chance to perform under well-known conductors such as Avip Priatna, Addie MS, Hikotaro Yazaki and Gudni Emmilson. I made my first concert debut as Music Director with The Arc Choirs and Music Chamber on 9 July 2017.

In 2018, I was shortlisted as an active participant to attend summer masterclass under the music program of Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, Austria. I was trained by the International ‘living legend’ Soprano Sumi Jo.

I had my first solo vocal recital in September 2019 in Goetheinstitut.

Also, a little bit of bio on the other singers?

Regina Handoko is one of Indonesia’s most talked about Soprano with a powerful stage presence and impressive high notes. She is also a harpist and well-known as a Soprano-Harpist in the world. She has won several achievements in the national and international classical vocal competition. One of them being the winner of Vienna Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition in Austria last September. She actively performs in concerts and participated in masterclasses.

Harland Hutabarat is one of the leading bass-baritone singers in Indonesia. With his rich voice, Harland has performed as a soloist with many orchestras in a number of events, such as the Independence Day concert with a program of Symphony No. 9 by Ludwig Von Beethoven with Twilite Orchestra and Twilite Chorus conducted by Addie MS and attended by the former President Megawati Soekarnoputri and the former vice president Abdurrahman Wahid.
