The Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival returns in 2022, aiming to bring hope and inspiration to the music industry, everyone involved in it as well as music appreciators. This highly-anticipated music event hopes to uplift the spirits of its festival-goers, encouraging them to persevere, be mindful, and start the wheels rolling again after the struggles of the last two years.
The Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival (JIJJF) makes its return in full force with its long-awaited offline event, which will be held from 27 to 29 May 2022 at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta. News of the upcoming event was received enthusiastically by the public, especially with the announcement of a diverse lineup of performers of varying musical genres, including jazz and its derivatives. From the Best R&B Album Grammy-winning PJ Morton to a lineup of top Indonesian musicians, both legends of the industry to the most current musicians loved by youngsters.
“For foreign musicians, with all the new processes, we managed to bring in a total of 25 groups,” said Dewi Gontha, President Director of Java Festival Production.
In addition to PJ Morton, several big names of international musicians who will grace the JIJJF 2022 stages include award-winning American singer, songwriter and actress JoJo (Joanna Levesque) and The Temptations Rev feat. Glenn Leonard, the world’s most authentic and talented tribute to the original Temptations today, whose dynamic show consists of five vocalists that have all the choreography, personality, talent and style of the originals, including the legendary former lead tenor.
This year JIJJF also promises a cross-genre collaboration party for both foreign and Indonesian musicians. On the first day, Erwin Gutawa collaborates with Ruth Sahanaya, Lea Simanjuntak and Andmesh Kamaleng, as well as Adikara Fardy and Ron King Big Band. Then on the second day, Ron King Big Band will also collaborate with Ahmad Dhani.
There is also Kenny Gabriel’s “The Playground Live Session” which is a collaboration of several vocalists from different genres and the legendary Fariz RM who will show his best performance along with Oslo Ibrahim and Faye Risakota.
In this post-pandemic era, the on-site event concept will forever be changed because our lifestyles have evolved, in which live event fans must adapt to all aspects that come with the new normal changes, including how they conduct business to move forward successfully. New health protocols will be implemented during the show to ensure that everyone has a safe and comfortable festival-going experience. All visitors must read and adhere to the rules and regulations.
In all event areas, masks (KN95 or N95) will be compulsory at all times, where the festival crew will make sure that visitors’ mask covers both their nose and mouth, and hands should be washed and sanitised regularly, and hand sanitisers will be available throughout the festival grounds. All visitors will be required to show proof of completion of the primary dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The PeduliLindungi app will be utilised during the event to verify visitors’ vaccination status before they can purchase tickets and attend the festival.
For foreign citizens, please ensure to have validated vaccinations by going to https://vaksinln.dto.kemkes.go.id/sign/in and then downloading the PeduliLindungi smartphone app.
Meanwhile, this year's Java Jazz Festival event is a special one because it marks the revival of offline festivals in Indonesia after over two years due to the pandemic. “We hope that people's thirst to attend live music festivals can be fulfilled at the Jakarta International BNI Java Jazz Festival 2022 and more and more people will fall in love with jazz and its derivative music genres including R&B, soul, funk and other types of music that can be found at the festival,” said Dewi Gontha.
She added that the event could not be carried out without the support of government agencies that provided the opportunity for this industry to move back and influence economic movements for the perpetrators.
