‘Brave’ Live in Concert: The Music of Scotland Comes to Jakarta

Music | 10 November 2022

Trinity Youth Symphony Orchestra

“Brave” is a live concert by Trinity Youth Symphony Orchestra (TRUST) that features varied repertoires, from most loved Scottish Traditional Tunes to the popular Original Soundtracks of Movies set and themed from Scotland. On 20 November 2022, this musical experience will bring the sounds of Scotland to the Jakarta Intercultural School Auditorium in South Jakarta.

The title of the concert, ‘Brave’, is an apt choice to describe the proud country: ‘Scotland the Brave’, being one of unofficial national anthems; the Disney movie ‘Brave’ about a young Scottish princess; and of course the ever-memorable ‘Braveheart’ of Mel Gibson fame that brought Scotland’s rebel hero of Independence, William Wallace, to the big screen.

The music of Scotland is often patriotic, conveying emotions of courage, pride and strength. This will surely resonate in the upcoming concert, which is set introduce beautiful Scottish music to the Indonesian audience, as well as give Scottish citizens living in Indonesia a moment of nostalgic appreciation for their homeland, prior to St.Andrew’s Day (National Day of Scotland, dedicated to the country’s Patron Saint).

The concert will be a meeting of cultures as all the songs are exclusively arranged by talented Indonesian musicians and will feature extraordinary guest stars including Archy Jay (Piper) & Artidewi (Vocal). The Scottish music is very engaging and fun both for the audience and musicians. With the dramatic sound of the Scottish bagpipes and the enchanting symphonic sound, the audience will no doubt take home a piece of Scotland when the nights ends. Expect to hear the epic music from James Bond’s Skyfall and Game of Thrones, as well as traditional and contemporary Scottish music, including the all-time favourite, Loch Lomond.

“The prospect of blending these cultures in the form of a musical collaboration by encouraging the youth of both countries to engage in such a process has long appealed. There is no doubt that such activities go a long way to foster far greater cross cultural understanding,” shares Ainsley Mann, Scottish Government Trade Envoy to Indonesia.

Trinity Youth Symphony Orchestra (TRUST) is a non-profit organisation under the tutelage of Trinity Optima Production - one of Indonesia’s leading recording labels, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility Program and is directed by Dr. Nathania Karina as their music director and resident conductor. Dr. Nathania will be the Conductor for Brave. She recently received the “Outstanding Conductor Award” from the World Orchestra Festival 2021 and the first female conductor to ever lead the prestigious Gita Bahana Nusantara at Istana Merdeka Independence Day celebration in 2022.

Guest Stars for this special musical experience includes: Artidewi, Leading Jazz & Classical Singer. Songwriter. Founder of Classic Meets Jazz concert series; and Archy Jay, India’s bagpiping sensation known to her devoted army of social media followers as “The Snake Charmer”; and the TRUST Chorus, a Children’s Choir under the baton of Sarah Charista, Indonesian conductor, the holder of Alexander Gibson Conducting Fellow in Royal Scottish National Orchestra Chorus and Musical Director of Pentland Junior Singers in Edinburgh.
