In an area covering 2,500 square meters, far from the hustle and bustle of the city in the Gading Serpong area, one can learn about the potential of Indonesia’s natural resources and technology. Arumdalu Farm was created with a set of integrated ecosystem engineering solutions developed by Arumdalu Lab, in collaboration with Summarecon’s Scientia Park. It is a place where one can discover the potential of Indonesia’s natural resources and technology.
Arumdalu Farm showcases an urban farm concept including organic farming, prefabricated building, and a farm-to-table cafe.
Entering the main area, we are welcomed by a sea of edible plants and vegetables such as tomatoes, strawberries, kale, chillies and basil. These plants honour the rich biodiversity of Indonesia’s natural resources and, in many ways, serve to encourage urbanites to observe and even learn how to grow them.
On the left we see a vertical farm installation, technology created by Arumdalu Lab named “Your Simple Garden” (YSG) as an example of future farming practices to help producers create more efficient and sustainable methods of farming. It combines hydroponic, aquaponic, and aeroponic systems and uses fish waste which is converted by micro-bacteria into nutrients for the plants, allowing a micro ecosystem to develop. Arumdalu Lab has started using the YSG method to grow a number of ingredients with outstanding flavour. It can be used to grow vegetables, fruits and herbs.
“We want to educate people about food in Indonesia. And as a consultancy on ecosystem engineering, we focus on three main things: the prefabricated building, integrated farming, and food innovation. That’s why at Arumdalu Farm we provide all kinds of examples in order to attract millennials,” said Albert Arron Pramono, Chief Executive Officer of Arumdalu Farm.
One other reason to visit is its Instaworthy spot, the sunflower garden. Many visitors spend time enjoying the area which is full of sunflowers. One can also see the sunflowers from the prefab house, a glass enclosure where one can enjoy dishes like tempeh burgers served with sweet potato chips, paired with plant-derived speciality drinks like bunga telang (butterfly pea) or kawista (Limonia acidissima) which taste like cola and sarsaparilla.
The prefabricated house was built in just seven weeks. Using technology from Arumdalu Lab, the construction utilised the latest fabricated building technology, Haus. Prefab houses are sustainable, can be constructed quickly, and are long lasting in a variety of terrain, including uneven surfaces, remote areas in a jungle, on an island, or even floating in the water.
“This is a glimpse of the future, how we can integrate plants, buildings and communities. We actually went back to the old days but with technology,” Albert said.
