From 2 to 4 April 2024, an impressive collection of student-made artworks were put on display at Beacon Academy as part of an annual exhibition titled ‘RAW’.  Vibrant paintings and impressive sculptures enlivened the school grounds and captured the unique perspectives and passions of their creators.

For Beacon Academy, providing platforms for a broad range of student interests is paramount, always aiming to support extracurricular activities and non-academic pursuits — and provide mediums in which to develop and grow them. Art and creativity are certainly important components to nourish in every child, and doing so is central to the school’s offering of a well-rounded education that goes beyond traditional academic subjects

The 2024 art exhibition was a great example of this. Following on from two successful art fairs in the previous years, in which students sold their artworks for charity, RAW was a pure showcase of creativity. The theme was chosen to open the grounds for authenticity and unfiltered creation, where each creation could offer a candid glimpse into each student’s artistic process and allow them to express freely through the arts. Parents, friends, and members of the community were invited to join us for the special event, where they had the opportunity to browse the incredibly diverse range of artwork.

“The theme of ‘RAW’ encouraged us to embrace imperfection and celebrate authenticity. It’s inspiring to see our students express themselves so boldly and creatively,” shared Laura Tanuwidjaya, the Junior School (JS) and Middle School (MS) Visual Art Teacher at Beacon Academy.

The art exhibition is but one of the annual programmes that is part of Beacon Academy’s academic year, whether it’s the annual athletics competition ‘Challenge Cup,’ to school camp experiences ‘Week Without Walls’. For this Cambridge International and International Baccalaureate school, Beacon Academy places a strong emphases on character development, leadership skills and community engagement, providing an environment conducive of developing responsible global citizens.
