Buumi Playscape

Currently open at two locations in Jakarta, Buumi Playscape offers experiential and interactive experiences where young children are invited to learn through play.

Children may not understand the importance of their playtime, all they know is that they’re having fun! In fact, play is exploration, especially amongst young children who are led by their unquenchable curiosity of their surroundings. Understanding that the environment children are in shapes their experience, Buumi Playscape invites children into spaces where they can jump, slide, paint, or play make-believe in ways that help them to develop as they play.

Today’s children are inundated with distraction and dopamine, with video games, television, YouTube always available at their fingertips. This has resulted in a decrease in the more traditional, but incredibly valuable, ‘playtime’. According to Healthline, ‘play’ is crucial in for cognitive, physical and social development: “Creative, open-ended play helps children conceptualise, brainstorm, and exercise critical thinking skills. It provides a primary foundation for learning, exploring, problem-solving, and building an understanding of the world and your role within it.”

Buumi Playscape

As such, Buumi Playscape presents curated playground spaces designed to stimulate the curiosity and explorative nature of young children, catered for children between the ages of 6 months to 12 years. Inspired by the Sanskrit word bhumi, which means the earth, the platform embodies the philosophy that just like the earth, a playground is the natural habitat for the children to play, spend time, and express themselves through experience.

For example, their flagship venue inside Pacific Place Mall showcases an integrated children’s space offering adventures and experiences that help kids grow in meaningful ways.

The 824 square meter area is filled with a variety of experiences where children can explore the different themed rooms centered on a specific learning goal. There are facilities where children engage in a fun gross motor activities in the “Landpark” area, learn to plant a tree and sell flowers in the ‘Farming Area’; develop their skills on literacy through variety of children’s books, assume the role of a veterinarian in ‘Vet’; they can channel their inner artist in the ‘Art Studio’; and, to really get their imaginations going, imagine themselves as astronauts and driving rocket ships in ‘Outer Space’.

Buumi Playscape is currently available at Pacific Place Mall (indoor) and, their new outdoor concept, Buumi Playclub, is available at Urban Forest Cipete. Professionally trained staff assist at each venue but all children must be accompanied by an adult (17 years or older), this is also to encourage child-guardian relationship and play. Spaces are routinely cleaned and sterilised for health and hygiene, and spaces are coated with special foam to ensure safety.
