Our beloved Jakarta will be celebrating the peak of its 492nd anniversary starting this weekend. City government and community organisations have prepared a variety of events and activities that offers number of attractions, bazaar and entertainment.
Happening in different areas of the city, the celebration will appreciate local talents, paying homage to Batavia tradition, and envisione a better future of the metropolis. Take a look at some events and activities during the anniversary celebration that you can still enjoy until 30 June.
Jakarta Fair at JIExpo Kemayoran
Started since 22 May, Jakarta has been attracting 4 million visitors to this even. As the biggest and longest fair in Southeast Asia, Jakarta Fair offers more than 500 events highlighting live music and a variety of stage performances where one could also explore local brands ranging from food to fashion in a 125,000 sq. m. area. Jakarta Fair is known as a lifestyle destination where people from Jakarta and other areas come to enjoy what Jakarta has to offer, from traditional arts and crafts to attractive sales on modern everyday household items. Jakarta Night Festival at Bundaran HI
Jakarta Night Festival is the pinnacle of Jakarta’s anniversary celebration agenda this year. The biggest celebration will be ignited with stage performances around Bundaran Indonesia, Thamrin, Central Jakarta this Saturday on 22 June. The event will fuse traditional nuance with technology where visitors can get a chance to see traditional dances, colossal performances, video mapping and immersive entertainment. The festival will highlight three thematic sequences representing Old Jakarta, Jakarta in Progress, and Jakarta New Face. A number of Indonesian artist and musicians will be performing on stage and broadcasted on live television.
Jakarta Creative Night at Lapangan Banteng
Running for two days from 22 to 23 June at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, this year’s Jakarta Creative Night is a little different than the previous years. The community event is a bazaar that displays a number of Indonesian products, presented by more than 60 local artists and brands. The visitors could find any handcrafted and homegrown products such as accessories, ceramic, textiles, local tea and coffee, etc. This year, Semasa Piknik by Semasa and Pasar Raia Keliling — which is usually held in Kota Tua (Old Town) — takes on a different atmosphere in Lapangan Banteng. The pop-up market will be offering the best quality of craftsmanship from Indonesian artist. Stay tuned during the evening as the water fountain show starts at 7pm.
Seribu Islands Indie Festival
The euphoria of the anniversary celebration reaches beyond just the inner city. This year, Jakarta city government is organising the festival in Pulau Seribu (Thousand Islands). Seribu Islands Indie Festival presents an intimate entertainment will take place on Saturday, 22 June in Tidung Island, featuring independent artists such as Alviandra Project feat Rahman Febrian, ISHOMA, Sisitipsi, Pusakata and Danilla Riyadi. The indie music festival will kick off at 3pm and ends at midnight. The festival is expected to attract more than 1,000 tourists and boosts revenue for the local industry. A personal trip to the festival is priced at IDR 360,000 with a minimum of 10 passengers on boat from Muara Angke and Marina Ancol, inclusive of homestay, meal, snorkeling, barbeque, biking and tourism sites ticket.
Jakarta International Photo Festival at Taman Ismail Marzuki
Debuting this year, the Jakarta International Photo Festival (JIPFest) exhibits the identity of Jakarta through visual lenses. The initial exhibition will be running from 25 June to 9 July at Taman Ismail Marzuki and 12 other venues around the city. In addition to a total of 12 exhibitions, JIPFest also presents four public lectures, three workshops, panel discussion, artist talk and urban photo tours. Photography lovers could participate in Projection Night, VIP Dinner, and a Portfolio Review or simply strolling around the bazaar about photography in Cikini area. Jakarnaval
The 492nd anniversary of Jakarta will be closed by Jakarnaval, a long parade that will run from Jakarta City Hall to the National Monument (Monas). Organized by Jakarta provincial government, the art and culture parade will be held on June, from 3.30pm to 10pm. The parade brings the theme of optimism to embrace the new face of Jakarta. Local communities and tourists could watch the performance as the parade ends at Monas.
