LaSalle College, a Canadian-based design school in Indonesia organised an online design competition Charity with Design to help the first responders and medical workers who need proper personal protective equipment during the battle with Covid-19. Through the design approach, the committee and the judge at the LaSalle College Indonesia invited young designers to express their creativity to help Covid-19 heroes.
Within a two weeks period, the design school in Jakarta and Surabaya have curated the winner of the Charity with Design where the final results have been put into production to be handed over to the recipients. In line with a campaign “StayHealthyStayCreative”, LaSalle College donated Hazmat Suits, or personal protective equipments (APD) to medical workers in 6 different hospitals and healthcare centres in Jakarta and Surabaya.
During the process, Indonesian emerging designer, Yosafat Dwi Kurniawan who is also the alumni of Fashion Design at LaSalle College also participated in the initiative to design Hazmat Suit for the front liners. Through the collaboration with his alma mater, Yosafat Dwi Kurniawan worked with his design team to produce protective suits. In total, there are 610 Hazmat suits distributed to several healthcare centres in both cities, Jakarta, and Surabaya.
Aligned with the head campus in Canada, LaSalle College Indonesia have been supporting the national government to curb the spread of Covid-19. 22 campuses worldwide have participated in two campaigns #WeAreinThisTogether and #WeAreLCI. The design school has sent their students home to study via online since 23rd March. Through this initiative, the renowned design school wants to show the designers adaptation to the current situation by igniting the design value and creativity that can find its opportunity in the midst of the pandemic since the fashion industry has also been hit the hardest during this time.
