Suryo Street across the trendy neighbourhood in Senopati just got busier with the arrival of the Front Room Bistro & Bar as a new addition to the current rising lifestyle scene in South Jakarta. Offering Western Asian cuisine, classic cocktails, to A-list collection of wines in the bar at the second-floor bar, The Front Man is not giving flashy surprise or groundbreaking innovation coming from their kitchen department, but one will definitely notice from their warm hospitality.

The colour blocking of classic blue on the facade of the building will not intimidate anyone who is willing to pay a visit. It describes any expectation of guests who look for a place that feels like home. The shade of Mykonos blue on the ceiling, matching palette from blue aster to bluebird on a velvet sofa and its platter design — the colour combination naturally creates a calming atmosphere that spirits up the warm wooden flooring. It’s the solid image that describes a picture of contemporary Mediterranean house.

The Front Room is the brainchild of Widji Darmawan who spent most of her career in the hospitality industry. Together with her spouse and the help from her creative team, Widji wants to translate her expertise in hospitality to The Front Room by showing the warmhearted service for anyone who comes by.

Her philosophy is not far from the definition of old-fashion hospitality, inspired by Xenia as ancient Greek concept of hospitality specifically noting the Jacob van Oost’s Painting titled Mercury and Jupiter in the House of Philemon and Baucis. For those coming for coffee and book or inviting the college and family for dinner, here at The Front Room, the guest will be treated like a King.

The Front Room feels like home.

As an accomplished bistro and bar, The Front Room offers a list of cuisine with influence from Asia, Italy, North America, and Mexico. Speaking louder with a motto “A Fine Flavor of Favor”, the restaurant promises a good taste and service. At the helm of chef Gerardo Milan, the restaurant offers delicious yet healthy dishes including homemade Bagna Cauda, a ‘bot bath’ of anchovies, garlic olive oil with vegetable sticks for a signature starter. A Fulfilling sensation comes from Glass Noodle, a minced chicken or pork, prawns, red onion, cilantro, served with sweet-sour Thai dressing.

Nasi Goreng or Fried Rice is always of the heart of many restaurants, but the culinary team at The Front Man has created their own version of Fried Rice, made from a combination of jasmine rice, beef tongue, garlic, shallots, basil, nam prik pao (Thai chili paste), and fish sauce. A range of protein dishes is also on the list, including Fajitas, a ribeye 200g, fresh tortillas, guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream.

Order more on the table to freshen up the conversation with a healthy choice of Halia, a concoction of red apple, ginger, and lemon; and finish the dishes with mouthwatering Vanilla Infused Pannacotta with Toffee sauce. During Neighbourhood Hour, the bar department serves house white and red wine and draft beer in the afternoon. The guest reserve the table post-working hour for dinner, of course, a list of house cocktails and wine are not meant to be missed.

The Front Room is open daily from 11am to 12am.
