One of the leading fashion education institutions in Indonesia, ESMOD Jakarta, held their annual event in the form of a fashion show displaying the masterpieces from their pupils. The Creative Show 2023 was held on 4 November 2023 at the Tribeca Park, Central Park Mall. ESMOD Jakarta is an official branch of ESMOD, an International Fashion Design & Business institution built since 1841 with its headquarters in Paris, France.

For this year’s Creative Show, it was decided to not focus on a specific theme as it offered more freedom for the pupils to explore their creativity without limits, and unlike the previous shows that were held indoors, they opted for an outdoor setting with a long runway this year. Works from 89 ESMOD Jakarta graduates, representing three study programs – Fashion Design and Creation, Fashion Design and Pattern Making, and International Fashion Business – were showcased in 222 different looks worn by 222 professional models.

Nathalia Gunaria as the Academic Program Manager at ESMOD Jakarta, expressed, “As an experienced fashion education institution, we present these works with the goal of sharing current popular fashion trends with the public, and these remarkable works are expected to meet the fashion needs of society.”

While discussing what kind of materials were used for the fashion show, Guillaume Oger, as the Head of Curriculum Development at ESMOD Jakarta, explained that, “…[the] materials used vary from traditional fabrics such as weaving or batik to sportswear materials like scuba, nylon, knitwear, and technical fabrics with functions such as cooling fibre or anti-UV. In addition, you will find many embellishments and fabric manipulations that present various techniques and unique aspects of the created works. They also develop innovative pattern-making techniques such as zero waste or one-cut patterns.”

“These works are closely related to the role of technology and conceptual design, for example, the use of 3D Printing and the use of social media as a promotional medium, considering the interests and needs of society,” added Guillaume.

The event also included the presentation of awards for four ESMOD Jakarta graduates selected for the Coup De Coeur De Jury, an award directly chosen by 42 Professional Jury members from various industries during the Jury Day event conducted earlier by ESMOD Jakarta. Participating jurors include Darwis Triadi (Professional Photographer), Eri Dani (Alumni of ESMOD Jakarta & Fashion Designer Eridani), Galuh Nurita (Fashion Designer & Advisor Laire & Louis Vuitton), Rama Dauhan (Alumni of ESMOD Jakarta & Fashion Designer Rama Dauhan Design Studio), Toton Januar (Creative Director & Co Founder Toton), and Yogie Pratama (Alumni of ESMOD Jakarta & Creative Director Yogie Pratama and IPMI).

Alce, Director of Development at ESMOD Jakarta, also mentioned that ESMOD Jakarta is currently in the process of researching the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and releasing the ESMOD Jakarta alumni website, which will facilitate all ESMOD Jakarta alumni in connecting with each other, displaying their portfolios digitally, and providing external parties looking for collaboration or candidates to fill positions in their companies with easy access through their website.

ESMOD Jakarta is also the first fashion school to enter the virtual realm of the metaverse in Indonesia, collaborating with Nusameta. In this event, some of the works by ESMOD Jakarta graduates from 2022 were also displayed as digital versions on LED screens. The hope is that by 2024, ESMOD Jakarta students will be ready to create digital versions of their collections. Additionally, ESMOD Jakarta collaborated with TikTok and launched the online campaign #ESMODDesignersOnTikTok, where the public can view behind-the-scenes videos of each showcased work and post-Creative Show content from each collection created by ESMOD Jakarta graduates.

ESMOD Jakarta also expressed gratitude to Official Make-up and Hair-do Ultima II, THAJA, YouC1000, Nusameta, TikTok, PAVVO, and Official Venue Partner Central Park.
