There are so many intercultural schools in and around Jakarta that provide International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes, yet not all of them are authorized to offer all four IB Programmes.
NOW! Jakarta had a face to face talk with Mr. A.P Singh, the Head of the Gandhi Memorial Intercontinental School (GMIS) Jakarta, as the school has chosen to become an IBCP World School addressing the needs of students engaged in career-related education.
amed after the great thinker Mahatma Gandhi, the Gandhi memorial Intercontinental School (GMIS) Jakarta proudly present the first ever, most outstanding school management to have been authorized to offer all four IB World programmes for students to follow their chosen pathways in life.
The internationally recognised IB Programmes are unique, as IB learners strive to be inquisitive, knowledgeable, critical thinkers, communicators, principled, risk-takers and reflective.
“I am proud to say that GMIS has become the first school in Indonesia to be accredited to provide IB Career-related Programme since 2016 and is the oldest school in Indonesia authorised by Cambridge. Here at GMIS Jakarta, we offer all four IB Programmes, including the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) and IB Career Related Programme (IBCP). GMIS Jakarta is an all IB World School, hence we provide a continuum as students move from Preschool to Primary School to Middle School and finally to IB Diploma/IB Career-related Programme. In all four programmes, the education of the whole person is manifested. Through IBCP programme, students are provided with practical, real-world approaches to learning, designed to prepare them for higher education, the IBCP incorporates the vision and educational principles of IB programmes into a holistic frame work specifically designed for students who wish to engage in career related learnings,” A.P. Singh declared.
In detail, the IB Career-related Programme (CP) incorporates a comprehensive educational system that combines highly regarded and internationally recognised courses from the IB Diploma Programme (DP) with a unique CP core and an approved career related study. The Principal also stated that the CP’s flexible educational framework has enabled GMIS students not only to be critical thinkers but also to be academically strong and skilled in a practical field, as they are engaged with a thorough and detailed study programme, that genuinely interests them while gaining transferable and lifelong skills. As of now, the GMIS Jakarta provides two career related pathways such as Accounting and Finance and General Microbiology.
As part of its ongoing commitment to the development of a highly skilled global learning community, GMIS Jakarta promises a varied range of professional development opportunities to help educators understand and successfully deliver IB Programmes, as well as provide an outstanding all-round education to prepare young people for success in a fast changing world. The school aims to foster an environment of high expectations in which all students are encouraged to believe in themselves, to be inquisitive, to be resilient and to be ambitious both within and beyond the classroom.
The importance of performing arts in education is crucial as it allows students to develop creative passions and learn the crucial skills of understanding diverse points of view in music, dance, drama from different cultures, communities and traditions. “We strongly believe in performing arts in education, since it encourages students to engage the mind, the body and emotions into a collaborative expression of all that it means to be human,” A.P. Singh said. “And that goes in line with Gandhi’s way of thinking, which has become our motto, underpinning education is all about drawing out of the best in the child and man—body, mind and spirit,” Singh added.
In addition to our strong reputation in academic growth, and excellence in all aspects of life, GMIS students and educators are encouraged to learn the Indonesian culture and heritage as well. “We encourage a better understanding amongst students from various nationalities through Indonesia’s immensely diverse arts and cultural heritage. The school has an enriching varied and hugely vibrant extra-curricular life. With students representing more than 40 nationalities, GMIS is a multicultural community of learners.”
The Indonesian values of “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” (Unity in Diversity) and “Pancasila” enable young Gandhians to become global citizens,” said A.P. Singh
