The inaugural 5-star Indonesia hotel Hotel Kempinski Jakarta honours its 62 year legacy in resplendence with the glorious unification of national icons. Exemplifying national pride with contemporary elegance, President Soekarno and architect Abel Sorensen worked together to establish this cultural cornerstone on 5 August 1962 that global guests were met with at the 4th Asian Games.

A Grand Celebration of Culture and Collaboration

The theme of the anniversary celebration is ‘Icon of Indonesian Pride’, as represented by how Indonesia’s modern style and storied history are honoured, through a cultured compilation of varied collaborative experiences. One example of such is Kebaya Kala Kini, a kebaya exhibition in the hotel lobby held jointly between Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation and Didiet Maulana, Creative Director of Svarna by IKAT Indonesia. Available from 15 August to 11 September 2024, it presents how kebaya has transformed throughout the years, as well as Didiet Maulana’s work which his book ‘Kisah Kebaya’ documents.

On 27 August 2024, nighttime guests from the Signature Terrace to the Bali Room will be treated to a vibrant Palang Pintu performance by iForte and their very own Gending Sriwijaya, accentuating the epic classical feel. Beautiful music and vivid narratives adding to that cultural aspect will be performed by Indonesian icon Happy Salma, the Jakarta Concert Orchestra, Batavia Madrigal Singers, and Avip Priatna, the ensembles’ Founder and Music Director.

Mustikarasa-Inspired Traditional Indonesian Gastronomy

A magnificent Angkringan-themed gastronomic market experience awaits guests, with a traditional flavourful feast inspired by the ‘Mustikarasa‘ cookbook formulated scrupulously to celebrate Indonesia’s deep history of cuisine. Ending the night is a four-course meal wherein every plate is made to demonstrate vintage East Java zests of Soekarno’s homeland in a contemporary light. As such, Indonesian gastronomy is honoured in all of its diverse glory, while showcasing through it the dedication of Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta to highlight and maintain the country’s customary legacy.

Moving Forward into the Hotel’s Future

The hotel’s General Manager Harald Fitzek expresses the sentiment that to recognise the 62nd year anniversary, a string of arranged experiences had to be striven for in order to honor its legacy. “This celebration is about history, national pride, and cultural heritage. More than just a hotel, we aim to be a cultural hub that bridges the past and present, ensuring that the essence of Indonesia continues to thrive. We are honoured to share this milestone with those who have been part of our journey.”

In the midst of its celebration, Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta aims to proceed onward with its trademark innovative preeminence. The commemoration heralds a brilliantly promising future for the hotel, featuring fresh proposals, cooperation, and events that work towards greater sustainability and enhanced facilities for every guest.
