Pungbu Korean BBQ is a new restaurant that lies in the heart of the popular culinary compound of ‘Segitiga SocialHub’ in Pondok Pinang, South Jakarta. Entering the market with the all-favourite Korean Barbecue, Pungbu echoes the atmosphere and tastes of authentic Korean cuisine one may find on the bustling streets of Busan, South Korea.
Korean cuisine’s popularity has surged drastically over the years in Jakarta. Its abundant use of rich spices shares some similarities to Indonesian dishes, and perhaps has helped the cuisine capture the hearts of locals. With this hunger for the cuisine, Pungbu opens its doors to Korean food enthusiasts and takes them into a traditional and humble Busan dining scene.
Pungbu’s exterior mirrors a traditional Korean house with its low-rise roof, wooden doors and natural stone wall – an expression of the traditional Hanok architecture. Inside, timber beams, and walls, wooden dining tables, chairs and dividers, all help to complete an authentic Korean atmosphere.
The menu stars some of the all-time favourite Korean comfort dishes, starting with the spicy Sundubu Jjigae (tofu stew), Jajangmyeon (black bean noodles), Rose Tteokpokki (simmered rice cake with creamy and spicy sauce) and of course the main star dish, the Korean Barbecue. The beef options are almost endless, ranging from the famous LA Galbi (grilled ribs), Saeng Galbi, Woo Samgyup (thinly sliced beef) to Bulgogi BBQ and much more. The modesty of these dishes let the blend of ingredients and spices speak for themselves, proving that foods don’t have to be complicated and fancy for them to be tasteful and great.
Dishes on the Pungbu menu range from IDR 80,000++ to IDR 400,000++, the restaurant opens from every Tuesday – Sunday, from 11.30 AM – 10.30 PM.
