As the academic year 2024-2025 begins, Kinderland Indonesia proudly marks its 30th anniversary, celebrating three decades of dedication to early childhood education. Since its inception in 1994, this Singapore-based preschool network, consistent with commitment, innovation and dedication has grown into a respected institution across Indonesia, educating over 20,000 young learners.
The foundation of Kinderland Indonesia was inspired by a mother’s pursuit for quality early education. Mrs. Suparno, the founder, was driven by her desire to find the right preschool environment for her eldest child in Jakarta. Realising that there was an unmet demand, she decided to bring the established Singaporean brand, Kinderland, to Indonesia. With a clear vision to offer nurturing space for children where they could receive holistic education that combines academic learning with creative and social development, Kinderland Indonesia was built.
Over the years, Kinderland Indonesia has celebrated its anniversaries in ways that reflect its core values and educational philosophy. The 10th anniversary in 2004 was a significant event, marked by a grand musical production titled Amelia. This performance, involving students from four of Kinderland’s centres, garnered recognition from the Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI) for featuring the largest number of preschool participants in a stage show.
By the time Kinderland reached its 15th anniversary in 2009, the institution had expanded its focus to include environmental awareness. The anniversary theme, “Go, Grow, and Glow,” saw students from seven centres come together at Ragunan Zoo for a tree-planting activity. Later that year, Kinderland organised a family cycling event at the National Monument (Monas), where children rode their creatively decorated bicycles. In addition to these celebrations, 2009 marked the launch of the Gerobak Pintar project in collaboration with the Hope Foundation. This mobile library initiative aimed to bring books and learning resources to underprivileged children in Jakarta, making education accessible to communities in need.
The 20th anniversary in 2014 celebrated both the institutions’ growth and Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. The celebration, held at the National Museum of Indonesia, featured artwork, traditional dances, and musical performances by students from five different centres. It was a colourful and vibrant display, highlighting Kinderland’s dedication to promoting cultural appreciation and the arts in its curriculum.
Now, as 2024 unfolds, Kinderland prepares to commemorate its 30th anniversary. Plans are underway to mark this significant milestone with a series of events that promise to be as impactful as those of previous years. The celebrations will likely highlight the institution’s journey, honour its achievements, and set the tone for the future.
