After its success in Semarang, Central Java, Mensa The Table has now expanded its high-end dining experience to the capital, opening their doors in Gedung Kemang 37, South Jakarta.
Mensa The Table welcomes diners into a chic, design-led space, featuring furnishing by sister company, Forme. The space is sleek and sophisticated, capturing urban tastes with its clean, minimalist design. Yet, this is grounded in an earthy, natural atmosphere created by the wooden decking and wall-panels, indoor gardens and floor-to-ceiling glass windows that bring in natural light. The ‘outdoor’ is brought inside, blended to create a plush and cosy setting.
An impressive scene is set, but of course the quality decor of any restaurant must be matched by its menu, and Mensa The Table’s food offerings certainly do. Here’s what the restaurant is bringing to the table – pun intended.
Bringing a culinary direction that centres around Asian Fusion, guests will enjoy a selection of dishes inspired by Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese and of course, Indonesian cuisine. The selection of appetisers are in abundance: if you’re craving something light and crispy, take a bite of Fried Salmon Dumplings; or savour their Balinese and Vietnamese fusion Sate Lilit, a grilled prawn satay that offers savoury, sour, sweet and bit of heat in one bite.
Taking your palate on a tour of Asia, you’ll find regional specialities like Pho Bo (Vietnam) and Thai Fish Salad (Thailand), as well as fusion creations like the Teriyaki Truffle Pasta, with wagyu beef slices on top of fettuccine covered in truffle cream. The main course menu features a special monthly dish, in March this was the Lemongrass Fried Duck – fried duck seasoned with a blend of spices and lemongrass, served with warm rice and salad topped with the signature mango sauce.
To close off, explore Mensa The Table’s sweet selection of desserts from the classic French Creme Brulee, the sweet and creamy taste of vanilla custard severed in balance topped with soft burnt caramel sugar to the Matcha Chocolate Delight, a combination of matcha and dark chocolate in a mousse-like texture.
Mensa The Table also offers a variety of cocktails, a must-try is their signature Pisang Coklat Negroni fused Campari with Ambon banana and sweet vermouth dark cacao combined with premium Indonesia ‘East Indies’ Gin. Of course, mocktails are also available, with signature creations including Berry Orange Tang Mocktail, a favourite in the Semarang branch, made from blueberries, orange marmalade, lychee and lemon with a refreshing citrus finish, or their Chamomile Highball Mocktail with chamomile tea, pina gum, line and soda.
Mensa The Table is separated into different areas, depending on diners needs. Romantic dinners, birthday celebrations and business lunches are all catered too, including private VIP rooms for up to 10 people found hidden in the walls. The bar welcomes those there for a drink and mingle, whilst outside a lounge area awaits among the greenery, with live music playing every Friday and Saturday.
