Entering the second semester of 2019, Jakartans will still be able to enjoy interesting events during the month of July. We have a list of recommended events for you to attend.
1. I La Galigo (3-7 July 2019)
I La Galigo is a colossal performance inspired by Indonesia's cultural richness. Having played in 9 countries and 12 world cities since its debut in Singapore in 2004, the latest edition in Jakarta will be performed at Ciputra Artpreneur. Directed by the internationally renowned Robert Wilson, there will be more than 50 performers involved. The production is based on ‘Sureq Galigo’, an Indonesian epic from the Bugis people of South Sulawesi. The ancient poem tells of the origin of humanity, through stories of travel, war, forbidden love, marriage and betrayal.

2. Atreyu Moniaga Project – Mix Feelings 04 Kintsugi (17 July – 15 August 2019)
Four young women Elle Dhita, Jessie Tjoe, Dinan Hadyan, and Sol Cai collaborate in an illustration exhibition called Atreyu Moniaga Project: Mixed Feelings 04 – Kintsugi. In Japanese culture, Kintsugi describes a process of repairing broken ceramics with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold. This cultural term is embodied in the exhibition where each of the illustrators share their stories of second chances, self developments, self-reinventions, and new beginnings.
The exhibition will be held on Wednesday, 17 July 2019 until Thursday, 15 August 2019 at Tugu Kunstkring Paleis, Menteng. The opening night will also present all four artists in an Artists Talk session.

3. Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) (18 – 28 July 2019)
The biggest annual automotive show in Southeast Asia returns to Jakarta this year. Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) will return this year for the 5th time since its first event in 2015. Indonesia Convetion Center (ICE) in BSD will host the event that will be held on 18-28 July.
This year, GIIAS took “Future in Motion” as the main theme, showing their support towards vehicle digitalisation, including electric and driver-less vehicle. Yohannes Nangoi, President of Gaikindo, said in the event’s press conference that there will be 25 passenger vehicle brands and 11 commercial vehicle brands that will be participating in this year’s exhibition.

4. We The Fest (WTF) (19 – 21 July 2019)
We The Fest is returning for its sixth edition on 19, 20 & 21 July 2019. Since its first edition in 2014, the festival has seen incredible performances from well-known local and international performers. Dua Lipa, Ellie Goulding, The 1975, G-Eazy, Mark Ronson, Macklemore, NAIF, Scaller, Barasuara, Sheila on 7, Raisa, Ramengvrl, Elephant Kind, and Stars & Rabbit are among many of those musicians.

5. Baluun by Haluu (6 June – 25 August 2019)
2018 ended with a fantastic exhibition from Haluu World. Located in Plaza Indonesia, they provide various spots decorated with unique materials perfect for taking pictures. This year, they are having their second art exhibition in the same location. Themed “Baluun”, Haluu presents an exhibition that will take you back to your childhood moments. There will be 12 instagrammable spots in the area, featuring, of course, a whole lot of balloons.

6. teamLab Future Park (20 June – 20 December 2019)
Sorak Gemilang Entertainment (SGE) Live invited teamLab from Japan to hold an exhibition called “teamLab Future Park” at Gandaria City, South Jakarta. There will be five digital installations in the exhibition: Animal Flowers, Symbiotic Lives, Graffti Nature: Lost, Immersed and Reborn, Sliding through the Fruit Field, Sketch Aquarium, and Light Ball Orchestra.
The exhibition will run for roughly six months, starting from 20 June until 20 December 2019. Head of Creative Economy Body, Triawan Munaf, will officially open the exhibition on Tuesday, 18 June 2019.
