The public-benefit and not-for profit Kuehne Foundation was established by the Kuehne family in Switzerland in 1976 and is associated with the leading logistics service provider Kuehne + Nagel.
Today, the organization is the private foundation by Prof. Dr. h.c. Klaus-Michael Kuehne and initiates and implements all its projects itself and in collaboration with global partners.
The purpose of the foundation specifies the following two main areas of support:
- Support for training, further education & research in the fields of transportation and logistics.
- Support for medical sciences, humanitarian, charitable, and cultural projects.
The activities in Indonesia relate to the foundation’s global logistics education program and aim to provide logistics expertise to the country. Together with the German-Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (EKONID), the Kuehne Foundation and local partners had a 2-day seminar on contemporary logistics-relevant topics in Jakarta followed by two further key note presentations to a student audience together with STIMLOG in the city of Bandung.
The global logistics education program aims to support developing and emerging countries in further strengthening the logistics business and local logistics community. Only with properly functioning supply chains and logistics operations is an economy able to work efficiently, connect to international trade and improve the living conditions by granting easier access to food and pharmaceuticals.
The mission of the Kuehne Foundation therefore is to develop in-country capacities and knowledge about logistics, such as in the form of university support for the implementation and continuation of logistics degree courses, for example. The second major support area is the execution of logistics seminars to train the current logistics professionals in the countries to the latest international concepts and standards which can then be applied and adopted to the local environment and needs.
