Plataran Indonesia

With an impressive network of hotels, resorts and restaurants across Indonesia, often in the most exotic locations, homegrown hospitality group Plataran Indonesia has certainly made its mark on the country’s tourism industry. Since its establishment in 2009, the group has made it their mission to celebrate Indonesian culture and nature wherever possible, and that certainly includes its preservation and conservation.

Plataran certainly has created some jaw-dropping destinations and experiences, from their mountaintop Patio Colonial House overlooking Borobudur Temple to sailing in style in the waters of Komodo National Park. Importantly, the brand appreciates that the local surroundings, history and culture, all come together to make each experience so distinct and memorable. Essentially, Indonesia’s inherent beauty is just as important as the products created, which is why Plataran has endeavoured to ensure their presence in each location ensures its longevity and sustainability for the future.

These are of course the principles of eco tourism, which the group fully subscribes to, finding ways in which tourism cannot only bring people to enjoy a destination but also be part of its improvement, or at least protection. This is what defines their vision of ‘Hospitality with Impact’.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Plataran Indonesia Yozua Makes explained, “At Plataran Indonesia, we always go back to our contribution to Nature, Culture, and Community as our three core pillars. We strive to make a positive impact in Indonesia’s hospitality industry, applying sustainability principles across all our properties, with a focus on environmental protection, cultural preservation, and community welfare.”

Working in and around Indonesia’s national parks and reserves has helped to develop key procedures when dealing with important environments, and inviting guests to be part of the region’s improvement. Examples include coral restoration efforts for the coastal ecosystems that surround Plataran Komodo Resort & Spa; joining West Bali National Park Rangers on their day’s work at Plataran Menjangan Resort & Spa, where conservation programmes for Bali’s endemic Bali Myna also take place.

Sustainability programmes exist for all three pillars, and can be guest-inclusive activities or are simply company initiatives. These include endemic tree planting and coral reef restoration under ‘Plataran for The Earth’, batik painting workshops through ‘Plataran for The Heritage’, as well as partnerships with local SMEs (‘UMKM’) to bolster community businesses through ‘Plataran for The People’. Other wider initiatives include support of NGOs, cooperatives and local environmental work.

“Our goal is to create experiences that enrich our guests with cultural insights and benefit the communities around us. In this way, we hope to contribute to a more prosperous and sustainable Indonesia,” Mr. Makes added, commenting on their #HospitalityWithImpact philosophy.=

As Plataran Indonesia continues to expand its impact across the archipelago, new destinations will be unveiled. Enriched with innovative hospitality programs designed to enhance guest experiences and promote responsible tourism, Plataran Indonesia is set to further establish the nation as a must-visit global destination. Through unique and sustainable accommodations, guests will have the opportunity to connect deeply with Indonesia’s natural beauty, immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of local communities, and actively participate in environmental conservation initiatives.
