On 28 June 2023, DIAGEO Indonesia (PT Langgeng Kreasi Jayaprima) welcomed one of the world’s most exclusive tequilas to Indonesia, Don Julio 1942. The moment was soft launched with Don Julio Tequila’s Global Ambassador, Karina Sánchez, who held a special tequila tasting experience for guests.
Among tequila imbibers, Don Julio is a familiar and favourite presence. Founded in 1942 by Julio González, an agave farmer, who started his first tequila distillery in La Primavera, the legendary Don Julio brand has risen to be one of the largest tequila producers in the world. Expanding its offerings in the Southeast Asian region, the brand recently introduced one of its flagship tequilas to the market, Don Julio 1942.
This particular variety offers a distinct flavour and quality. It was first released in 2002 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the brand and as a tribute to its founder, Don Julio González. Produced in small batches, this drink is a favourite in exclusive cocktail bars, restaurants and nightclubs — and has finally arrived in Indonesia officially for the first time.
Introducing Don Julio 1942 to the Indonesian market, the brand’s Global Ambassador, Karina Sánchez, held an intimate tasting experience. The tequila master is the initiator behind the first National Tequila Day celebration in Mexico, and at the tasting event Karina imparted knowledge to industry professionals and consumers about the unique craftsmanship and flavour profile of Don Julio 1942.
Don Julio 1942 is distilled from 100% blue Weber agave, without the addition of sugar, to maintain the purity of its taste. After the distillation process, the tequila is aged in wooden barrels for two and a half years, allowing sufficient time for the tequila to develop and acquire its unique characteristics. The result is a tequila with rich caramel and chocolate notes, with a taste that blends warm oak, vanilla and roasted agave, and a lingering oak and vanilla finish. This premium tequila is perfect for drinking on the rocks or neat.
Sánchez explained the cultural importance of tequila for Mexicans, and how it is rooted within the country’s history and traditions. The tequila culture goes beyond the production process and encompasses rituals, celebrations, and social gatherings where tequila takes a central role. Tequila is often associated with celebrations, fiestas, and other special events, symbolising joy, brotherhood, and togetherness.
As part of DIAGEO Global, Don Julio is now stepping foot on Indonesian soil through its local subsidiary, PT Langgeng Kreasi Jayaprima (DIAGEO Indonesia), offering several varieties of Don Julio tequilas including Blanco, Reposado, Anejo, and, of course, Don Julio 1942. Customers and consumers can now find Don Julio 1942 at selected outlets in Jakarta and Bali.
