Any parent who’s ever had to take their active toddler for a haircut would understand the hassle of keeping the little one in his seat. Having sharp scissors snipping away inches of their hair or the buzzing sound of an electric shaver running up and down their scalps could be a rather scary experience, and rightly so.
That’s where Kiddy Cuts came in. Opened in 2001, the award-winning hair salon caters specifically to babies and children. The idea was rather simple: entertain the children and make them look good. The salon itself is designed like a playground. Kids get to sit in cars or on motorcycles and are treated to cartoons or video games. Toys and bubbles are also provided.
Spread throughout Jakarta, Bogor, Surabaya and Bandung, the salon has gained popularity over the years. It’s become a favourite place for little boys wanting to look like Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo or the superhero character Captain America and little girls wanting to look cute and dreamy.
Babies are very much welcome too, from 40 days to 12 months old. “We understand how sacred it is for Indonesian parents to have their babies have his or her first haircut. It can be so emotionally moving to see new parents cry to the sight of their baby sleeping tight during the process,” says Siti Aisyah, Manager of Kiddy Cuts at Lippo Mall Kemang, where well-trained stylists perform haircuts on babies using a sanitised electric baby hair clipper.
Deeper into the Kemang area, right on Jalan Kemang Raya, D-Katz also provides quality children haircuts and has been doing so for many years. The two-storey establishment was born not long after Kiddy Cuts and has been a heartthrob for many families, both local and expatriate.
“Here, we teach the children self-hygiene and neatness. We don’t recommend children to have manicure, pedicure or creambath though. It is not good to use cosmetics too early,” says D-Katz Kemang Operational Manager Iyus.
Here, every haircut is a fun experience. Once the children are done with their haircuts on the second floor, they are treated to games and food downstairs. Everyone leaves with a little toy present.
As for women looking for a little pampering for themselves ought not look further beyond the Kemang area. In the neighbouring Darmawangsa, just minutes away, Mom n Jo provides spa treatments for expectant and new mothers. Opened in 2006, Mom n Jo was the first and remains the most favourite spa destinations for many women, thanks to such services as Pre-baby Bliss Massage, Body Scrub, Milk Bathe and Facial. Breastfeeding mothers have attested to the all-time favourite Breast Massage to boost up breast milk production.
When it comes to babies, doting parents can book Jump Start Baby treatment to stimulate them to learn to walk earlier or to exercise their motoric abilities in Swimming Class, to be followed by some splashing fun in Bubble Bath. Baby massage is another favourite, to usher in relaxation as well as improve immunity and appetite.
With dozens of awards under its belt and a commitment to improve the wellness of its customers, Mom n Jo only uses natural products. Its baby and mother massage oil is made from pure jojoba extract and grape seeds, body scrubs assembled with herbal ingredients. Here too, lavender essential oil is used to keep mosquitoes away.
“We also have an all-natural Cold and Flu Syrup that works for both children and adults. It is our best-selling product and is available at drugstores and online,” says Ichda Akrimah, Mom n Jo Branch Manager.
