The Orient Jakarta, an exquisite new boutique hotel, best described as “An Urban Escape for the Modern Traveller” Is located  in the heart of central Jakarta, and opened on 29 September 2021. It is located right on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, in close proximity to office buildings, malls, and entertainment venues, and was designed by award-winning landscape architect and maximalist interior designer, Bill Bensley who has created some the world’s most iconic resorts; this is one of his few city hotel designs.

The property takes guests on a nostalgic journey of the East, inspired by a bygone era, where guestrooms and public areas are expertly curated to showcase the rich character and storytelling of the hotel.  A few years ago, Bill discovered a treasure trove of turn-of-the-century batik print records in a small Canggu antique store in Bali. "I often go by the mantra of 'Buy First Think Later' when sourcing for projects, but when I stumbled upon these incredible books of antique batik print patterns and sketches, my mind was full of ideas on how to apply them and coming up with a unique DNA for The Orient." The traditional art of batik, nowadays considered tedious, old-fashioned, and matronly, came alive with vibrant detail and intricate beauty on the many pages of these hand-bound books. They were hand-drawn and painted records of hundreds of batik patterns, collected by a Dutch trader who had developed batik wax cloth to sell in Europe.

For The Orient Jakarta, a magnificent 32-floor skyscraper in the heart of the bustling Indonesian capital, Bensley honoured the traditional art form with a pop art twist. Batik elements in beautiful patterns are recreated in oversized pieces, highlighted throughout the hotel. From the Lobby, complete with restaurant Caspar, to the Rooftop Bar, with restaurants and pools on the 32nd floor, the DNA of The Orient Jakarta is that of traditional batik made modern, tied together with thousands of collectible antiques and enchanting upcycled pieces, for a unique experience in a city that is anything but usual.

Prioritizing the guest experience above all, the hotel offers guests a full range of experiences during their stay. A highlight is the fifth-floor infinity hydrotherapy swimming pool where guests can relax and rejuvenate as they overlook Jakarta’s bustling CBD. The gym and spa are slated to open soon.

Being in the heart of the city has its perks. The Orient Jakarta is home to a number of unique and interesting food and beverage outlets. Already a crowd favourite, Caspar serves modern Spanish cuisine, using the finest ingredients to create unforgettably tasty dishes and pairs them with unique hand-crafted cocktails.

Also popular among locals and expats is Furusato Izakaya, an authentic Japanese izakaya, which serves simple and traditional Japanese fare from sushi and sashimi, agemono, teppanyaki, bento boxes and much more. Guests will be impressed by the skills of our talented Washoku chef who creates authentic culinary experiences with fresh, quality ingredients.

The Library Lounge is a stunning backdrop to enjoy an exquisite afternoon tea or an exhilarating night of whiskey and cigars. Award-winning mixologists have scoured near and far for the best whiskies and ingredients to create perfectly balanced cocktails to sip as you gaze over the cityscape or enjoy a good book. The Pool Bar serves playful tiki cocktails which are fun and frivolous. An excellent venue for sunset cocktails, pre-dinner drinks and nightcaps.

Soon to open is Café California, the sleek rooftop day club. Bursts of west coast American pop culture set the stage for a fun-filled day at The Orient Jakarta. American-inspired international cuisine and refreshing cocktails will open before the end of the year.

The Orient Jakarta shines as a multi-faceted gem in the bustling metropolis of Jakarta. With amenities, features and food and beverage outlets suitable for a wide range of individuals. We look forward to welcoming all of you very soon to The Orient Jakarta,” said Luis Daniel Garcia, General Manager.
