From recycling botanicals to supporting local farming, Spice Islands Distilling Co. is reshaping gin-making with sustainable practices. Through this, they prove that great gin can also be eco-friendly.
With the belief that crafting a great gin should not come at the planet’s expense, Spice Islands Distilling Co. has been redefining sustainable gin production with innovative practices that minimize waste and reduce energy consumption. Recognizing the energy-intensive demands of gin production since the beginning, they dedicated themselves to prioritize sustainability in every step of the process.
Utilizing botanicals left over from the brand’s signature East Indies Gin distillations as feed for free-range, organic black heritage pigs formed part of an initial initiative. As such, their dedication to resourcefulness and support of local farming are demonstrated, thus assuring the environmental responsibility of all operations’ components.
A bottle recycling program was also launched to lower overall energy consumption in facilities by reducing packaging waste. By recycling spent botanicals and actively seeking eco-friendly solutions, the distillery remains dedicated to producing premium spirits that align with its sustainability goals.
“As a company, we recognize that sustainability is at the core of everything we do,” said Mitch Hayhow, Master Distiller of Spice Islands Distilling Co. “We understand that every choice we make has a broader impact, and we are committed to finding new ways to lessen our environmental footprint and contribute to a healthier planet.”
Looking ahead, Spice Islands Distilling Co. are excited to unveil additional sustainability initiatives that will enhance operations and benefit the community. Together, meaningful change can be created, and a future will be built where outstanding gin and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
