In an effort to enhance the visual skills of hotel public relations professionals in Surabaya, the Surabaya Hotel Public Relations Association (Himpunan Humas Hotel Surabaya) collaborated with the Indonesian Photojournalist Association to host an exclusive street photography training event through the H3 Jalan-Jalan program.

The training not only provided techniques and tips on maximizing the use of mobile phone cameras for street photography but also took participants on a journey through the charm of European-style buildings in Surabaya’s Old Town. Starting from the Arcadia Hotel, the hotel PR professionals were guided to De Javache Bank, a historic building constructed during the Dutch colonial era, showcasing a blend of classic European architecture with local touches.

The journey continued to Plaza Internatio, also known as Internatio Building. This is one of the oldest buildings in Surabaya, established in the late 19th century and formerly used as an international trade office. With its grand architecture and captivating ornamental details, the building offered stunning photography angles.

Next, participants headed to Siropen, a legendary syrup factory founded in 1923. Siropen is an iconic culinary spot in Surabaya, with its factory building maintaining its original colonial-era design and antique machines still in operation. This location provided a unique opportunity to capture moments from Surabaya’s industrial history.

The tour then moved on to PTPN 1, a building that once served as the headquarters for a colonial-era plantation company. The elegant architecture, featuring large columns and spacious interiors, offered another set of beautiful photography subjects.

After the street photography session, the hotel PR professionals were invited to enjoy various European architectural sights once again using a tour wagon. This added an exclusive and comfortable touch for the participants, allowing them to appreciate every detail of Surabaya’s Old Town beauty.

With its rich historical background and classic architectural beauty, this activity was not just a photography training session but also a profound experience in understanding Surabaya’s invaluable cultural heritage.

Suryanto Putramuji, Chairman of the Indonesian Photojournalist Association – Surabaya, provided practical tips and tricks for optimizing mobile phone cameras. Against the backdrop of Surabaya’s Old Town, the hotel PR professionals were encouraged to capture moments that combine the beauty of history and the dynamic life of the city.

“This collaboration is expected to enhance photography skills as PR practitioners. The H3 Jalan-Jalan program is the first for members to gain direct experience that can later be used as information media about Surabaya’s destinations for hotel guests,” said Kus Andi, Chairman of the Surabaya Hotel Public Relations Association.

H3 Jalan-Jalan is a program aimed at promoting Surabaya’s tourism. Starting with introducing the trending Surabaya Old Town, this program will be routinely held to explore many other exciting tourist spots in Surabaya.

“Today’s event was really fun and educational. I’ve never been to Surabaya’s Old Town before, and I gained a lot of valuable information, both personally and for our knowledge as hotel PR professionals in Surabaya,” said Dida Bahalwan, Marketing Communication Manager of Hotel Shangri-La Surabaya, concluding the afternoon activity.
