Developed by Berlin-based NGO Tactical Tech, ‘The Glass Room: Misinformation Edition‘ is a self-learning installation that explores how technology and social media platforms are shaping the information that we see, consume and share in our everyday lives. This internationally renowned pop-up exhibition is open from 28 January – 26 February 2023 at Goethe-Institut Jakarta’s library.
At a time where information technology is becoming ever-more advanced, this exhibition helps to unpack the dizzying world of misinformation, focusing on why it is shared and how it is spread. This immersive experience, filled with interactive apps, posters and activations, guide visitors through a learning journey into today’s data-driven world.
Visitors will learn why finding ‘fake news’ is not as easy as it sounds. Additionally, visitors can dive into the world of deep fakes, which are now so realistic, they are virtually impossible to detect.
Alongside the exhibition, visitors can pick up a Data Detox Kit, an easy-to- read printed guide to data and privacy, so you can learn how to take practical steps to improve your digital lives.
“By bringing this exhibition to Jakarta, we hope our library can play a part and contribute to developing digital literacy on how to filter information that we consume online in a larger effort to fight misinformation and disinformation,” shares Stephanie Müller, Regional Head of Information Services of Goethe-Institut Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
The Glass Room began as a large-scale exhibition, traveling from Berlin to New York, London and San Francisco between 2016 and 2019. The pop-up ‘Misinformation Edition’ version has been hosted in 19 countries, with over 30,000 in-person visitors across Europe. The project is co-funded by the European Union.
Goethe-Institut library opening times: Monday to Friday, 11AM – 9PM; Saturday: 11AM – 7PM; and Sunday: 11AM – 3PM.
