Ciputra Artpreneur presented one of the most popular boys’ choir, the Vienna Boys Choir on October 15 & 16 at Ciputra Artpreneur Theater, Jakarta.
It was more than 600 years ago that the Vienna Boys Choir started singing in Europe for the imperial court, the masses, concerts for state and private functions. In 1918, the choir made their appearances in public. Great musicians like Mozart and Salieri, composers Gallus and Schubert and brothers Joseph and Michael Haydn have all worked or sang with the Choir. Today, the Choir is about 100 Choristers from 30 different countries between the ages of 10 to 14 years, forming four touring groups. They perform 300 concerts each year in front of close to 500,000 people.
In recent years, they have expanded their program to include performances with The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, The Vienna Symphony Orchestra, The London Philharmonic and The Pittsburg Symphony Orchestra, amongst others. Their performances in Jakarta, under the guidance of Italian choirmaster Manolo Cagnin, the choir who consisting of 22 boys from nine countries performed 20 songs with duration one and half hours. As a special surprise for the audience in Jakarta, the choir performed the well-known Betawi song "Jali Jali". Rina Ciputra Sastrawinata, President Director of Ciputra Artpreneur stated that she was truly excited to have this world-renown choir performing in the theater. She had presented musicals and dance before but it was something different and for the people who came to the theater be assured of a quality performance.
