The government continues its efforts in responding to the Covid-19 outbreak in Indonesia, including breaking the chain of transmission. President Joko Widodo expected that the large-scale social restrictions and physical restrictions policy to be implemented more rigorously, more disciplined and more effectively. This was conveyed by the President in his introduction during a limited meeting held through teleconference at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, on Monday, 30 March 2020.
"I’m also requesting to ensure that pharmacies and shops ensure are to remain open to ensure the basic needs of the people while continuing to implement strict distance-keeping protocols," the President said. In line with this policy, the government is also preparing a social protection program and economic stimulus for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), business practitioners, and informal workers. "This will be announced later on to the public," he added.
In implementing the large-scale social restriction policy, the President requested for preparation of coherent implementing regulations as guidelines for provinces, districts and cities. The President reminded again that the health quarantine policy including regional quarantine is the authority of the central government, not the authority of local governments. "I expect all ministers to ensure that the central government and local governments to have the same vision, the same policy; everything must be calculated, everything should be considered, both from the possible health impacts and the socio-economic impacts," the President stated.
