Winter weather is particularly exciting for those from warmer climes. Korea has a range of activities this winter that are sure to get your thirst for adventure going!

Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival
The Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival has been featured on CNN as one of the “7 Wonders of Winter.” It attracts over one million visitors each year, continuing its reputation as one of the world’s four major winter festivals. Featuring a wide variety of experiences and attractions, including mountain trout fishing on ice, a zip track stretching across the festival venue, and various snow and ice sculptures, the festival is one of Korea’s top winter festivals, beloved by more and more tourists each year.

This festival will be held January 5 – 27, 2019, in Hwacheoncheon Stream, Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon-do

The Inje Icefish Festival
With crowds of visitors wanting to experience ice fishing, Soyangho Lake is filled with the sounds of delight and laughter throughout the festival season. In addition to ice fishing, the festival features many unique events that can only be enjoyed in winter including icefish tasting, ice sledding, and ice soccer. This festival will be held in Injedaegyo Bridge, Nam-myeon, Inje-gun, Gangwon-do around January next year, so stay tuned!

Taebaeksan Snow Festival
Held every winter in the snow-covered landscape of Taebaeksan Mountain, the Taebaeksan Snow Festival offers a true winter experience. Featuring magnificent snow and ice sculptures by artists, the festival is brightly lit by the smiles of tourists. Other activities that can be enjoyed are International snow sculpture exhibition, snowman festival, snow climbing contest, traditional winter games and so on. This festival will be held around January 2019 as well.

Pyeongchang Trout Festival
When the season of snow and ice arrives, an outdoor trout festival is held at Odaecheon Stream in Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do. Pyeongchang’s breathtaking views of snow-covered landscapes have earned it the nickname “the Alps of Korea.” It is the perfect place to appreciate the beauty of winter while enjoying an exciting festival. The theme of the festival is “A Winter Story of Snow, Ice, and Trout.” It features a variety of hands-on programs including trout fishing, sledding, and traditional sledding. This festival can be enjoyed through December – February, 2019.

Hongcheon River Ginseng Trout Festival
Every winter, tourists flock to the frozen Hongcheongang River to catch special “ginseng trout,” which were fed six year-old Hongcheon ginseng. In addition to ice fishing, which can be enjoyed by people of all ages, the festival features a wide range of attractions, cuisines, and entertainment including bare handed trout fishing, Snow World operated by Vivaldi Park, charming views of thatched cottages, and traditional restaurants. This festival can be enjoyed in January next year too!

Taebaeksan Snow Festival.

Fun Ski Festival
This ski festival is held from mid-December to early March at Yongpyong Resort, Korea’s first ski resort and a well-known host of international competitions. It offers a fun and exciting winter experience with skiing and snowboarding lessons taught by expert instructors, skiing competitions and award ceremonies, and a wide range of hands on programs and performances.

This ski festival is held from the peak of winter in mid-December to early March at High1 Resort, which is equipped with top-notch facilities. It offers a memorable experience particularly to Southeast Asian tourists who love the excitement of skiing and snow. Visitors can take part in expert-taught skiing lessons of varying difficulty as well as performances and events to experience the beauty and charm of Korean culture.

Join a Ski Camp! Korea Int’l Ski Camp offers a very fun ski lesson that is suitable for both skiers and beginners.
