Overlooking Bali’s lesser visited northern coast, in the hills of Kayu Putih village in Singaraja, The Damai has quietly been the chosen destination for those after a quiet escape.
Away from the busying crowds of the south, The Damai is home to 15 serviced villas, ranging in size from the intimate to the palatial. Donning a homey, Asian-inspired design, rich with lush fabrics, local antiques and hard wood furniture, the villas blend with their rural milieu.
The open spaces and layout allow the flourishing greens into view, with further vistas of the north coast from Bali’s old capital Singaraja to the far off volcanoes of Java. All 15 villas have been designed to feel like a home, not a hotel.
For any holiday, dining has become just as important as the accommodation. The Damai Restaurant is award-winning; yes, this secluded brasserie in the hills of North Bali has been recognised for it’s quality dishes. Born out of a collaboration with renowned Chef Jakob Mielcke of Mielcke and Hurtigkarl, Denmark, the restaurant’s menu is filled with new versions of classic Balinese dishes and western favourites prepared with a tropical twist.
The focus here has always been on locally sourced ingredients, be it homegrown produce from herbs and spices, to the rarely seen rabbit, pigeon and snail. Any meal, whether day or night, is accompanied by views of the life-filled coastline of Lovina beach.
