Denmark-Indonesia Diplomatic Relations

This year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Indonesia. To celebrate, the Embassy of Denmark in Jakarta, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and sponsorship from Danish and Indonesian companies, hosted a special badminton tournament.

Badminton has long been a shared passion in both countries, symbolising friendship, cooperation, and social cohesion. On 15 February 2025, the Embassy of Denmark in Jakarta brought together badminton enthusiasts at the GBK Arena, Gelora Senayan, for a friendly tournament in honour of this milestone.

The event was officially opened by the Ambassador of Denmark to Indonesia, H.E. Sten Frimodt Nielsen, alongside Umar Hadi, Director General of European and American Affairs at Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The essence of this tournament is not about winning or losing, but about fostering friendships between our two nations. Over the past 75 years, Denmark and Indonesia’s relationship has matured, and I believe that for any relationship to remain strong, it must continue to evolve, adapt, and grow together,” said Ambassador Nielsen.

Participants included representatives from government, private sectors, and civil society, spanning diverse fields such as politics, trade, investment, maritime affairs, health, energy, the environment, food and agriculture, as well as consular and visa services.

The tournament featured three categories: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, and Open Doubles. Beyond the competition, the event fostered a warm and engaging atmosphere, reinforcing bonds between the two nations.

The celebration also included an award ceremony for the winner of the 75th Anniversary Logo Competition, with Apit Adi Saputra receiving recognition for his inspiring design that beautifully encapsulates the spirit of Denmark-Indonesia relations.
