2024 Jakarta Biennale: 50 Year Journey

Held biannually since 1974 as a major Indonesian contemporary art event, the 2024 Jakarta Biennale frames its methods and implementation by starting from the concept of “lumbung”, which is used to evaluate and present work practices to a wide audience, based on work carried out by many national and global initiatives, then translated artistically and poetically in public, community, exhibition and performance spaces.

Through the granary’s values and working methods, the 2024 Jakarta Biennale will encourage the sharing of resources and power among the many local collectives who have practiced granary work: the harvest of this event’s 50-year journey. 

Date: 1 October – 15 November 2024

Location: Taman Ismail Marzuki Complex, Jakarta and collective spaces that are part of the Majelis Jakarta.
