National Batik Day
2 October 2009 was a historic day for Indonesia’s culture and heritage when UNESCO formally recognised batik as an intangible cultural heritage. Since then, that day has been celebrated as National Batik Day. Batik is a tapestry of symbols, techniques and colours, created not just for the sake of its beauty but also to tell stories, reflecting the nation’s soul through wax-dyed patterns on cotton and silk.
As a living culture, batik continues to inspire innovation and creativity, bridging the past and present while serving as a source of pride and inspiration. Celebrating National Batik Day is a chance to honor this timeless craft and acknowledge its enduring role in shaping Indonesia’s cultural landscape.
