Indonesia’s leading culinary event, Ubud Food Festival 2020 Presented by ABC returns for its sixth year this 26 to 28 June (rescheduled from 17 to 19 April), presenting a full line-up of over 90 chefs, restaurateurs, farmers, food writers, researchers and more over three event-filled days.
The Ubud Food Festival (UFF) presents an experience that brings you up close and personal with the culinary world. Through a series of cooking demos, special events, food tours, masterclasses, spread over 30 venues in Ubud, the annual event showcases the depth, expertise and creativity that goes into this booming industry. “When we’re eating, we tend to forget that there’s a story behind every food item, every meal, every cuisine,” says UFF Founder and Director Janet DeNeefe.
This year, with their theme ‘Heroes’, the limelight is shone on the people behind the food. The theme aims to emphasise that food is not simply about what’s on the plate, it is the journey of an individual’s passion, the fruits of a bustling industry and the story of many cultures. The focus on these culinary heroes will foster a great appreciation for what happens in the kitchen, in the farms and behind the scenes.
So, what can you expect from the line-up this year?
Well, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re looking to savour some flavours, learn a new skill or just hear from one of the world’s culinary experts - from food writers to local activists - the Ubud Food Festival’s many events will provide!
The Kitchen Stage invites you watch as chefs go live behind the stove, cooking up and sharing some culinary secrets. Workshops and Masterclasses invite you to discover a new kitchen talent, from making creamy gelato to producing tempe. You can even discover Ubud’s legendary local delights on the UFF-organised Food Tours.
Of course, a huge pull of the festival is that world-renowned chefs descend upon Ubud to share their signature dining experiences. Among those coming are Chef of the Year by Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Awards 2020, Barbados-born Paul Carmichael; Germany’s youngest female Michelin-starred chef, Julia Komp; award-winning Executive Pastry Chef from Belgium, Yannis J. Janssens, just to name a few. They will work closely with some of Bali’s and Indonesia’s best, from Mozaic Ubud’s Chris Salans, Aperitif’s Nic Vanderbeeken, MasterChef Indonesia judge Renatta Moeloek. The list goes on!
Enlightening, invigorating, entertaining and downright delicious, the Ubud Food Festival is not to be missed by any food lover out there.
