MVB’s Final Conference for 2018 Calls for Focus on Sustainability

Most Valuable Business Indonesia (MVB) hosted the 2018 Sustainable Business Conference on 13 December at Raffles Jakarta. This year’s theme ‘Collaboration for a Better Future’ focused on sustainability programmes adopted by member companies.

MVB Chairman, Alistair Speirs and  CEO of MVB International Eamonn Sadler welcomed the gathering in their opening remarks.

The keynote speakers were the Ambassadors and representatives of the Nordic countries. Each of them shared their specific specialist subjects on sustainability programs in their country. The Swedish Ambassador, H.E. Marina Berg delivered her presentation about ‘Smart Cities and Mobility’ and discussed Sweden’s vision for the future. The Finnish Ambassador, H.E. Jari Sinkari shared his presentation on ‘Waste and Circular Economy,’ followed by the Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission of the Norwegian Embassy, Bjørnar Hotvedt who shared Norway’s experience in the sustainable use of ocean resources.

The Danish Ambassador, H.E. Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, focused on ‘Renewable Energy Sources.’ during his presentation.

The Conference also featured experts, government representatives, NGO’s and multinational companies who spoke on related points on sustainability. The speakers included  Oswar Mungkasa, the Deputy Governor of Jakarta for Spatial Planning and Environment, Budi Santosa, the Executive Director of Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development (IBCSD), Anthony Cottan, the President Director of Starbucks Indonesia, Dr. Juniati Gunawan, Lecturer and Director of Trisakti Sustainability Center (TSC), Ratna Kartadjoemena, Partner & Director of Potato Head Family, Shashibhushan Jogani, President Director of PT. SGS Indonesia, Baruno Subroto, Secretary General of Security Strategic Relations and Business Continuity IACPP and Bijaksana Junerosano, Founder of Waste4Change.

The conference showcased companies that demonstrated the highest critical standards in implementing good business practices such as ethical employment, corporate sustainability, environmental friendliness and good customer service based on sound corporate values.

Through these important aspects, companies were encouraged to ensure they are executing the most responsible business practices. The conference also served as a forum to exchange information and ideas on how businesses can convey their ethical business strategies to consumers, and to better collaborate with each other to improve efficiency.
