NEWS | 19 May 2016

On April 15, 2016, LaSalle College Jakarta presented their Annual Graduation Show, ‘SEKALA 2016’ at The HALL in Senayan City mall.

‘SEKALA’ was inspired by the beauty and richness of ancient Bali and the beliefs of the indigenous Bali Aga Tribe in embracing the power of nature. Students and lecturers at LaSalle College wanted to return to the roots of the country’s traditions and turn its beauty into shapes, colours and sounds through this unique event. The graduation celebration incorporated fashion shows, interior design installations, digital media designs, artistic makeup collaboration exhibitions, photography exhibitions and interactive installations, all created by the talented graduates of LaSalle College. The event started with a graduation ceremony where 126 students from all six subjects were officially inaugurated. Awards were also given to the six students with the best students from each department:

After the graduation ceremony came the fashion show, where graduates from the Fashion Design programme showcased their own collections. The show opened with a Balinese dance by EKI Dance, followed by the fashion show which consisted of nine sequences; The Era of Opulence, Geringsing, Paradise Bali, Paradise Resort, Japonaiserie, Onyx, Prism, Serenity and Geowhimsical Kidswear. A total of 205 garments were showcased by 65 LaSalle College designers at the show.

Numerous exhibitions from other LaSalle College programmes were also showcased at the event, a few of which were interior design installations consisting of hand-sketched drawings, furniture, handicrafts and mockups, a 3D face tracking collaboration between the artistic make-up and digital media design programmes, a photography exhibition featuring three photographers, as well as an exhibition of student brands by the fashion business programme, namely: ORU, Ab.sense, and Aashi. With approximately 1,208 people in attendance from the media, businesses, design enthusiasts, bloggers, other students, as well as the general public, the event was a huge success.
